Editorial It's that time again when I try to think of an original way to welcome you to the latest version of SynTax, but fail miserably and usually resort to 'Welcome to Issue of SynTax!'... Erm ... welcome to Issue 44 of SynTax! As promised, PC readers will find the new and improved SynWin - SynWin 96 - with this issue, as programmed by Darkside using Delphi. It has an installation program to run through Windows and I don't think you'll have any problems getting it up and running. No other files are needed, there's a 'questions and answers' manual in this issue and I am sure you'll be even more impressed than you were by the original SynWin. If you have ANY queries, either give me a ring or drop me a line or FAX, or Email Darkside at his Email address as given in the Help section and manual. SynWin 96 will only be provided once with SynTax because of the size of the program, especially since Darkside added the installation program. Obviously, if something happens to your copy, let me know and I'll send you a new one. The 'old' SynWin will be provided with all issues but I'd suggest you change to SynWin 96 because it is so much more versatile. SynWin 96 would have taken more than the 'free' half of the high density disks, so I made the decision to give PC owners 2 disks this time, otherwise various other topics would have had to have been shortened or missing altogether from this issue. Rogue's Gallery is busy this issue with two photos ... one of Brian Burke and one of Grue, Neil and myself. Neil held a housewarming barbecue in mid-August and Alan and I travelled over to Bristol from Sidcup, while Grue travelled down from Ormskirk, so finally the Three Musketeers - Neil, Grue and I - got to meet up. Neil and Grue had met half a dozen times before but I had only ever spoken to either of them over the phone, though goodness knows we've done THAT a lot over the last 7 or 8 years! It was terrific to meet both of them, as it is to meet any SynTax readers, but having known both of them for many years it was a bonus to meet them both at the same time. Please consider sending YOUR photo for a future issue. It is lovely to be able to put faces to the names and voices. Grue suggested people should send in photos of their pets, especially dogs, since we're meant to pick ones that look like us, or we end up looking like them (or vice versa), then people can try to guess the owner! By next issue, I hope to be better organised (the last 2 months have been hectic here) so that I can include maps on the disk in the screenshots section too. It's an ideal way to display them and with the new SynWin, which accepts the smaller GIFs as well as BMPs, we'll have more room for pix. Two more things - can anyone help with a method of converting Degas PC2 graphics files to IFF format? I'm trying to move some graphics from an ST disk to the Amiga via the PC ... help! And finally, I've already told you about the 1996 Adventurer's Convention which is being held at the Royal Angus Thistle Hotel, St Chad's, Queensway, Birmingham B4 6HY on 19th October. Tickets have gone well and the organisers have decided to keep the price at œ7.00, regardless of when you book. For more details or to book a place contact Vicky Jackson at 128 Merton Hall Road, Wimbledon, London SW19 3PZ. See you in November ... Sue - o -
