NORMALITY - Part 1 Solution by Alison Dunbar There are a number of minor variations possible in the game (for example using a different object to perform the same task), as well as one more significant variation where the story takes one of two possible forks depending on your actions: the major variation is included in this solution, but the minor ones are not. IN THE FLAT From the intro, you know that your first aim is to get yourself to the Plush Rest factory. Go through the kitchen, into the laundry room, and pick up the wooden bird. Return to the sitting room, pick up the cushion from the bed, then pick up the remote control which was under it. Use the bird with the remote to keep the TV permanently on. Pick up the flyer and read it (note - to look at an item in your inventory, right click on it); you find out about a job at Plush Rest. Use the sofa to break it and reveal some coins and a weird gizmo. Take the T-shirt from the chest of drawers. Go back through to the kitchen and take the little cardboard box from the cooker top. Go through into the bathroom and take the sharkpoon from the bath. Go through the kitchen to the laundry room and look at the rat in the washer. Use the sharkpoon on the rat in the washer, then use the cardboard box on the rat to take it. Return to the sitting room and open the window, then use the window to leave the flat. DAI Talk to the person (Dai): ask what he needs, then ask what beverage. Use the window to return to the flat. Go into the kitchen and use the kettle to boil the water. Use the kettle with the coffee mug, then get the paint from the laundry room and use it with the mug of coffee. Pick up the mug of coffee and leave the flat via the window again. Give the mug of coffee to Dai. You now have the opportunity to talk to Dai - go through all the conversation options to get some background to the story. When you end your conversation, Dai will take you down to the ground. You are now in the street near your flat - there are several locations here but none of them are currently accessible, so either find and use the bus stop, or press "M", to access the map and go to the Plush Rest factory. PLUSH REST Go through the gates then walk around to the right side of the factory to see the dumpster; take a look at the dumpster, the chute, and the footprints. Go back around to the front of the factory. Use the T-shirt on Kent (by clicking it on the photo in the top right corner of your inventory) then go in through the front door of the factory and talk to the receptionist. When the receptionist tells you that you are too thin for the job, tell her about your T-shirt. Go through the door marked "private" and into the hospitality niche. Use the sofa to find another gizmo, then use the "sculpture" to produce a cup of coffee. Taking the coffee instigates another cut-scene at the end of which you will find yourself in :- TIDDLER'S OFFICE If you go through all the conversation options offered with Tiddler you will learn a little more of the background to the story. Take the current sender from the socket in the corner of the room, then look at the radio to find out that the current receiver is plugged into it: pick up the radio to take the receiver. Look up above the glass case to see what may be a way to reach the debris. Open the door and leave the room. Follow the arrow marked "grub" then turn to the left and open the toilet door and enter. Move forward until you are standing on the toilet seat then use the air vent above you. Inside the air duct, take the left fork and collect the belt, then go back and take the right fork. Continue along beyond a second right fork and you will find yourself above the glass case in Tiddler's office. Look down and use the case to take the debris, then return to the WC. Continue around the corridor to the kitchen and go through into changing room 1. Go through the conversation with the person here for more background. Scan the lockers till you find one which comes up as the singular "locker", then open this one to find two books which you should take. Go back the way you came then turn right beside Tiddler's office into the remaining corridor. THE CONVEYOR Turn right into the test area and go through into the conveyor belt area. The person here will obstruct anything you try to do, but talking to him will reveal him to be a waste engineer (meaning, of course, that he will pick up any debris left around). Go back through the test area and turn right towards the guard at the end of the corridor. Pick up the battery then go up the steps. Note the "caution" sign on the wall and read the manual on the floor to find out about the bed. Use the current receiver with the bare wire at the head of the empty bed. Use the current sender with the battery then use this combination with the current receiver. Look at the bed to find out what you have accomplished, then dump the debris on the bed to bring the waste engineer. Return to the conveyor belt area. Use the control box to the left of the door to halt the grinders. Look at the manual on the floor. Attempt to pick up the fire extinguisher (riot control device) and you will find that you need to half empty it first. Attempt to use it and you find you need something to hold the buttons in. Use the belt on the extinguisher. Use the extinguisher to empty it, then pick it up. Use the grinder and you will find yourself inside the dumpster. Go through all the conversation options and you will end up with two tasks to perform :- broadcast a video on national TV and spray a statue bright yellow. Once outside the factory walk around to the area behind the building and use the fire extinguisher on one of the drums of yellow paint to make a paint sprayer then use the map and go to :- THE TV STATION Go through the gates and pick up the clod of dirt from the step. Talk to the bouncer and you should find out about his phobia. Give him the rat in the box then enter the TV station. Walk down the entry corridor and turn left into a side corridor. Open the door to your left and enter the room. Pick up the script from the floor near the fax machine. Use the fax machine and a message should come out - read it to find out that today's broadcast will be live. Look at the person on the floor (computer engineer). Give the clod of earth to the computer engineer and you will get his shirt. Look at the shirt to dump it while keeping the badge. Look at the badge and make a note of the name (Ben Holen Elliot). Leave this room and walk across the entrance lobby to the manager's office. Talk to the female person (secretary) and ask to see Mr Johnston. Talk to Johnston and you should receive an ID card. Leave his office and go down the remaining corridor. Turn left and use the ID card on the control room door. Use the video tape with video machine VT2. Use the computer then type "HOLEN" as the password: wait a sec for the screen to change, then enter the command "RUN VT2". Your first task will now be successfully concluded and you will be returned to the dumpster. Ask about the gizmos then use the map to go to :- THE MALL Talk to the matchseller outside the mall. Go through all the conversation options to gain a few hints, then give the costume book to the matchseller to get a book of matches. Open the large doors and enter the mall. Look at the waffle statue - this is the one you must paint but there is a guard here. Keep walking forward and you will initiate another cut scene. After this scene, you can, if you want, go down the corridor to the left where you will find a record shop where you can locate your "contact", however he is not really any help to you and you may as well skip this and go upstairs instead. Upstairs, take the screwdriver which is just inside the door of the boarded-up shop, then enter the "Thrifty Fifty" shop. Look at the yappy puppy. Take a yappy puppy, take a glider, then use these two together: repeat this twice more. Take the fruit croppers, use them to cut down the large glider, then use the two items together. Leave the store, pick up the fruit croppers and go downstairs. Go to the other end of the mall from Brian's record store and enter the "Cave of Comestibles". Talk to the person and he should become very upset and turn off the lights. You will then be able to use the fruit croppers to cut down the speaker from the ceiling. Go to Brian's record store and take the CD cover from the middle of the wall display ("Total Clap"). Go through into the back room of the shop and use the speaker and the CD cover with the stereo. Go out to the statue and use the matchbook with the Firestarter book. You will now find yourself in a boarded-up shop. Look at the crates then use the matchbook to end this scene and get yourself back to the dumpster. Go through the conversation with Heather to find out about your next task - to liberate Saul from the Ordinary Outpost. Use the map and go to :- THE ORDINARY OUTPOST Talk to the norm behind the glass at the far end until you get the elevator code (1572). Use the elevator keypad and enter this code to get to the lab corridor. Go to the desk at the end of the corridor and pick up the scalpel from the counter. Talk to the person behind the counter and he will take your gizmo. Open the door of the glass booth and go in. Look at the prisoner. Use the straps. Use the scalpel on the straps. The prisoner will now break the window on the exterior wall, and the window leading from the internal corridor to another lab. Pick up the prisoner and go to the metal tube (Zoomtoob). Use the buttons. Press the down button then press the red button. Put the prisoner in the capsule. Use the buttons then use the red button. The prisoner will disappear but his replacement does not arrive. @~To be concluded next issue - o -
