Zork Nemesis - Part 1 Solution by Darkside of the Moon Temple of the Ancients Go up the stairs, and enter the tomb, go to the candle and touch it, after the ghost go to the stone coffin and open it, wait till the violin is done playing and read the note in the coffin, leave the tomb, and go to the doors that lead into the temple, read the sign above the door 'when the sun and moon are one', now grab the moon shaped door knocker, but instead of using it to knock on the door, bend it fully upwards so it touches the sun on the door, the door will open and you can enter. Enter the library to the right and read all the books you find here, make notes of all the things you read and combine them with what you read in the book that came with the game: (open triangle pointing up) = Fire > Bishop Francois Malveaux > Saturnax (open triangle pointing down) = Air > Dr. Erasmus Sartorius > Juperon (closed triangle pointing up) = Water > Madame Sophia Hamilton > Venusnv (closed triangle pointing down) = Earth > General Thaddeus Kaine > Murz Leave the library though the small door in the 'north' and you will come to the gallery, walk to the left until you hear a voice and have a small door to your left, go through this door into the laboratory and explore everything, here you will find a scroll, again make notes of what is on it, together with all the symbols: Juperon & Tin & Air Murz & Iron & Earth Saturnax & Lead & Fire Venusnv & Copper & Water Also climb up the ladder and read the book you find here, read the book right of the exit door and notice the drawing in the table and the picture of the girl with the violin. With this knowledge you can start the first few quests, getting the elements and giving 'life' back to the 4 alchemists. The 1st alchemist: Bishop Francois Malveaux If you now leave the lab and go right till the end, you're now back at the little door to the library, turn left and keep walking until you go through another door, now you will find yourself outside, there is a sun dial here, get the iron rod from it and go back to the library. In the 'south' of the library you see several big screens, move them aside until you see a passage, the screens can be moved left or right, (1st one left, 2nd one right, 3rd one right and the last one left), go into this passage and go to the door. On this door you see a round stone, it has several symbols and a human in the middle, it is the same picture you saw drawn in the table in the laboratory, you can grab the human's 'head' and turn it to face one of the symbols. If you look at the little map in the book that came with the game you will see the symbol of Saturnax near the place where you now are. If you have read the books right you know that the element that comes with this symbol is Fire, the open triangle pointing up, so move the head so it faces this symbol (7 o'clock) and the door will open. Move on and you will see another sun dial, stick the iron rod in it and then turn it to so the shadow it casts will fall on to the symbol of Saturnax, the planet that had Bishop Francois Malveaux name behind it in one of the books you read, you saw the symbol on the scroll in the laboratory. Once you do this the sun dial will turn and a new door will be revealed. Go through this door and you will reach a room with hundreds of burning candles, but just before you enter this room look to your right and get the mirror you find here, go into the candle room and hang the mirror up on the 1st left hook, you will now see the opposite candles in the mirror, but notice that one of them has a blue flame, find this candle, look under the 1st right hook, touch it and you will see it up close, now touch the blue flame and you will be transported to the center of the temple, to a round altar where a flame will now burn. Push this flame into the altar to give the power of fire and life back to Bishop Francois Malveaux, now go to the resting place of Bishop Francois Malveaux, the 2nd crypt from the right, he will now speak to you and thank you for you help, he will also tell you that the Nemesis has killed his daughter, and he still hears her play and feels her spirit sometimes. She must be the ghost you met outside the temple and the lady on the picture you found in the laboratory. Now it is time to help the 2nd alchemist: Madame Sophia Hamilton From Bishop Francois Malveaux's crypt go north/west until you see some stairs leading up, go up these stairs and you will find two little alcoves to the left and right. First examine the left one, it is a stone face, when you touch it a tune will be played, just 3 notes, now go to the right and there you sill find a little water organ, open the right 3 pipes to get the same notes (1, 4 and 5) you will hear a door unlock. Go into the left door and up the stairs, now you will enter a time room, it has 6 pictures on the wall, all showing you a picture of this place at a certain time. In the middle of the room is an hourglass, touch it and it will turn to reveal a chair, sit in this chair and spin clockwise so you see the bowl standing in the window. Now start turning anti-clockwise until you can see the time period where they built the temple through the window, get out of the chair, go to the window and get the saw you see here, get back into the chair and keep spinning anti-clockwise until you reach the ice age, get out of the chair, and use the saw on the ice stalactite, the ice will fall into the bowl. Now get back in the chair and turn clockwise until you reach the volcanic age, you will hear it by the noise, get out of the chair and go to the bowl, the ice will now melt into water, touch the water and again you will be transported to the temple with the round altar, the bowl of water will be on the altar, pour it over the stone to give the power of water and life back to Sophia Hamilton. Go to her crypt, the 1st one on the right and listen to her, she will confirm the story of Bishop Francois Malveaux and will ask you to give life back to all of them. Onto the 3rd alchemist: General Thaddeus Kaine Go to the stairs where you found the water organ, but instead of going up these stairs continue north into the little building you see here. You will find a door here that is locked by two iron bars, each bar held by a skeleton hand, you can open the hands finger by finger, and underneath each finger you will see a symbol, now from your notes you know that Thaddeus Kaine is associated with the planet Murz, and the metal Iron, now only open those fingers that cover these symbols, so you will see the symbol of Murz and the symbol of Iron (1st finger on left hand - 2nd finger on right hand), the rest of the symbols are covered. The door will open and you can enter. Walk to the staircase, but as you see it has no steps and is a slide. Pull the lever and the whole staircase will be lowered, once you arrive at the bottom leave the staircase and pull the handle on the device in the center of the room, now steps will appear on the staircase, go through the door and you will find yourself in a mine. Walk to the telescope and look through it, you will see the item of earth that you need to get, go up the stairs behind the telescope and you will find a mine trolley on a rail, before you enter it you must press one of the 4 buttons on the panel to the right, look at your notes and find the right symbol for earth (the closed triangle pointing down), once it is pressed get in the trolley and it will bring you to the item you saw in the telescope, get it and you will be transported to the round altar in the temple, push the earth into the stone to give power of earth and life back to Thaddeus Kaine, he will thanks you and also tell you his son was murdered by the Nemesis, he will then ask you to find his son and bring him back... The 4th and last alchemist: Dr. Erasmus Sartorius Go to the northeast part of this temple to find a similar building as you found when looking for the earth element, go into the building and you will see 5 horns and a big map on the floor of the stars. All you have to do is to turn off all purple stars and turn on all blue stars, the blue stars will form the symbol for Juperon, a staircase will drop from above and you can climb up. As of now I still not have found a use for the horns, so just leave them, go up the stairs and you will come into the air room, here you must 'get' the air, to do so you must first seal off this room. Walk to the right side of the big device and look just under the glass bowl, there is a button in the shape of an insect, press it to seal the room off, now go back to the front of the device, and turn the levers to add air into it. Put the 2nd lever to half and both the 3rd and 4th to full, a whirlwind will appear in the glass bowl, touch it and you will be transported to the round altar in the temple. Push the air in the final slot and all 4 of the alchemists will start to speak, telling you to save them, to learn all of all the alchemy in this world. As they speak the Nemesis will appear, while he speaks the 4 will combine their power and force him away, leaving 1 golden orb behind. Now go to the room behind the altar, the room that holds a mechanical version of all the planets in this solar system, all it needs is a sun, put the left lever in the side slot, a mechanical arm will come towards you, put the golden orb in the holder at the end of the arm, put the left lever in its upper slot, the sun will now be placed in the center so that all the planets spin around it. Now with the right lever you turn the planets around the sun, whenever 1 of the 4 planets (Murz, Saturnax, Juperon and Venusnv) is in the sunlight to the right of your screen you will hear a little bell strike, now move the right lever slowly clockwise so that Saturnax, the brown planet with the rings, is in the sunlight and you hear the little bell strike, let go of the lever and you will be transported to: The Monastery (Bishop Francois Malveaux - Saturnax - Fire - Lead) From where you start turn right and go through the archway, read the stone tables that is on the wall and turn around so you face the archway you just walked through, now look at the floor and touch the spark you see on it, it is a coin, take it, now go through the archway and through the second one. Go up the stairs 2 times until you are at the door of the monastery, read the notice and try the door, it is locked, turn right and look at the floor, you will see a hole, go through it and you will appear on the other side of the door in the monastery, turn right so you see the collection box, read the sign and put your coin in the box. You will get 6 pieces of paper, make notes of the symbols and what they stand for, now turn around so you see the wall right of the door and walk to the notice board, read all the notes you see there and make some notes of your own, go back to the door and walk towards the stairs. Go up the stairs and you will see 6 heads, 3 to your left and 3 to your right, in front of the heads are 4 bowls, each holding 2 plates, each plate has a symbol, you must now put the right plate under the right head using the notes you made of the 6 pieces of paper: left wall: left face = True fear is known only by the very quick and the very thick middle face = An angry man is a righteous man right face = Boredom is perfect balance without purpose right wall: left face = The road to happiness is paved with good health middle face = The hips curve, the arching spine, a heartbeat outside your own, in there lie absolution right face = To the eye of suspicion there can be no mistake, only miss directions Before you insert the last plate, touch all the faces so you know what they all say, now put in the last plate and all the faces will start to speak, now be quick and note the order in which they speak: An angry man is a righteous man - To the eye of suspicion there can be no mistake, only miss directions - The hips curve, the arching spine, a heartbeat outside your own, in there lie absolution - Boredom is perfect balance without purpose - True fear is known only by the very quick and the very thick - The road to happiness is paved with good health. Now go up the left stairs, through the door and up the staircase until you reach the controls of the clocks, now look at the 16 buttons and you will see that each button has a symbol on it, and if you look closely you will see 6 buttons that have the symbols referring to he t6 faces on it, now play a tune in the order the 6 faces spoke. so: 1st play the key with the symbol that stands for the face that said: An angry man is a righteous man - key 2 2nd play the key with the symbol that stands for the face that said: To the eye of suspicion there can be no mistake, only miss directions - key 14 3rd play the key with the symbol that stands for the face that said: The hips curve, the arching spine, a heartbeat outside your own, in there lie absolution - key 16 4th play the key with the symbol that stands for the face that said: Boredom is perfect balance without purpose - key 12 5th play the key with the symbol that stands for the face that said: True fear is known only by the very quick and the very thick - key 9 6th play the key with the symbol that stands for the face that said: The road to happiness is paved with good health - key 4 You will see a rope drop from a hatch in the ceiling, but before you go there, walk just left of the controls of the clock, you will reach a door, go through it and you find yourself in a large corridor leading to the monks rooms, Alexandria's room (the violin girls) and a staircase leading up to Bishop Francois Malveaux room. You will find the door to Bishop Francois Malveaux room barricaded so enter Alexandria's room and read/examine everything there, you will find that she is sent to Madame Sophia Hamilton school. Leave the room and enter go through the big door leading into the laboratory of Bishop Francois Malveaux here you must examine and read everything, you will find out that Dr. Erasmus Sartorius tells Bishop Francois Malveaux that he is dying, also you will read notes from Madame Sophia Hamilton telling Bishop Francois Malveaux that Alexandria has fallen in love with Lucien Kaine, the son of General Thaddeus Kaine. Once you've read everything, get the mirror called 'The Implementors Eye' and go back to the controls of the clock, grab the rope and ring the bell, the rope will pull you up, quickly go through the window the you see, you're now outside on a balcony. Follow and you find a little door, enter the room. This is the room of Bishop Francois Malveaux, notice the flames on the wall and their colour: blue, yellow, red, orange, white. Go to the right book case and read the book on the 2nd shelf, then finally read the book on the night stand, in this book you will learn that Alexandria was an orphan, brought to Bishop Francois Malveaux by Dr. Erasmus Sartorius. Bishop Francois Malveaux raised her and send her to the school of Madame Sophia Hamilton, here she met Lucien Kaine. You find out that there is something strange happening and Alexandria and Lucien want to get married very quickly and she wrote to Bishop Francois Malveaux that they will come the next full moon, then the book ends. Now examine the book on the bed, use the 'The Implementors Eye' on it and note the heading that the skulls look at: south, west, south/east, south/west, east. Finally examine the little table in front of the bed, if you approach it from the left you can touch the amulet that is on it. Examine the left bookcase and when you grab the right book the book case will slide away and you find yourself back at the 6 heads, go up the left staircase and go through the door that is ahead of you, once through the door continue until you see the mad monk, then turn right and walk to the table that is in the light, touch the table to see a the 4 alchemists perform a ritual on a baby, possibly Alexandria. @~Oooh, what's going to happen next? You'll have to wait until @~Issue 45 to find out. - o -
