Internet News Meridian 59, a new on-line multiuser game running on the Internet, got a quick mention a few issues ago. Some more news has now reached me, and I thought I'd pass it on. Meridian 59 comes from 3DO (http://www.3do.com) and is a fully 3D game running on a single server in the USA. It contains a vast area to explore with numerous cities. Some of the inhabitants are computer generated NPCs but others are real, live players. The game is still on Beta test and has a massive 15,000 Beta testers so with any luck all the bugs should be ironed out by the time it is open to all. With so many people involved, character interaction is all important if you're going to survive, let alone prosper! You can form allegiances with other players or stick with the system and join a Guild for extra protection. Naturally there is also the opportunity to beat up some monsters and collect treasure. The screenshot I saw looked very promising and I'll be interested to hear if anyone has personally tried the game during its testing phase. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Now a correction to Issue 43's section. In there, I printed some sites from Bev which are excellent US addresses for text adventures and related stuff; the official home-page is "A Maze of Twisty Web Pages" run by Steve van Egmond and the Internet address is: http://www.undergrad.math.uwaterloo.ca/~svanegmo/if/if-index.html or to access it at the if-archive level: http://www.undergrad.math.uwaterloo.ca/~svanegmo/if/if-archive. Last time we left out the /if/ bits. Bev says they are both ways of accessing the if-archive/ftp.gmd.de site and reckons there is a quicker route to get there ... does anyone know? - o -
