THE GREAT ARCHEOLOGICAL RACE

                     Hints by Bev Truter

   1.  Getting the status line to show a score.
      This is impossible - the scoring system doesn't seem to be
      enabled, and typing "Score" doesn't help either. Your score
      remains zero throughout the game, so resign yourself to
      ignoring the status line and getting back to civilization
      with all the treasures, and forget about amassing points.

   2.  Getting to Hareda, the S.American village.
      Examine your desk and open the drawer, get the report. When
      the phone rings "answer phone", then go to Perry's office and
      give him the report. He gives you an airline ticket and
      explains your mission. Before leaving the Museum, go to the
      Bathroom, open cabinet, get bottle and examine it - it's a
      closed bottle of ClogGone. Enter the black sedan waiting on


      the Driveway. At the airport get the suitcase and open it,
      get electric blanket. Read the brochure the religious fanatic
      gives you, and show ticket to Gilbert. Go North to the
      Lounge, examine ashtray and get the matchbook, give ticket to
      Shirley and go east to board the plane.

   3.  Operating the machine in Rubber Supplies.
      First get the latex block from the Glade in the jungle, then
      open the crate in Storage and get the bands. Open
      compartment, put bands and block in compartment, close
      compartment. Go East to the office, open the box and read the
      catalogue. You need to make the vacuum hose, then come back
      to Rubber Supplies and recycle it to make the gas mask when
      you are finished with the hose. Read black label, get black
      disk, insert black disk in slot. Examine the screen, then
      push button. (You can't see a button on the panel of the
      machine, but it's apparently there somewhere). Open
      compartment and get hose.

   4.  Getting rid of the thief/bandit in the Clearing.
      First get the shovel from the shack, then climb the tree in
      the Clearing and open the trunk. Take the mailbag, climb
      down, then SAVE. The thief attacks you with a knife, and you
      have to hit him with the shovel, but you seem to come out the
      loser more frequently. Persevere until you wound him and he
      runs off in disgust, dropping an EMERALD RING as he leaves.

   5.  Opening the safe in Jose Vargas' Office.
      Return to the office with the mailbag, and give mailbag to
      Vargas.  He is so grateful he unlocks the safe and hands you
      a valuable GOLD WATCH.

   6.  West of the Cavern with the boulder.
      The URN is simply lying around at the Cave Entrance.  Tie
      hose to stump at Top of Crevice, then go Northwards to the
      Ice Room. Put blanket on cube, turn blanket on - the ice
      melts and you find a GOLD BAR. Return to the Cavern - the
      rope bridge breaks and all your belongings drop down to the


      crevice floor. Climb down the hose, collect all your
      belongings, and get the candle and the BRONZE IDOL from the
      Temple. Return to Cavern with boulder, put idol in left
      indentation.

   7.  North of Cavern.
      "Dig wall" with the shovel to make a hole northwards, then
      continue North and Up to the Peak. Smell, and you detect the
      aroma of Butterscotch. Pray, and a MEDALLION appears. Return
      to Cavern, put medallion in middle indentation.

   8.  Making and Using the Gas Mask.
      For the next bit you will need to go back to Rubber Supplies
      and put the hose in the compartment to recycle it into a gas
      mask, using the blue disk in the machine slot. The mask can
      only be worn for a short period of time, and "remove mask"
      and "drop mask" both seem to be ineffectual - try "take off
      mask" when it needs to be removed.

   9.  Northeast of Cavern.
      Find the Luxurious Chamber at the end of the Stone Maze,
      Northeast from the Cavern with boulder. Open coffin and get
      CROWN.  At the Dune Room dig to uncover a manhole cover in
      the sand. Go down to the Sewer and light the candle and wear
      the mask. Use the bottle of ClogGone to unblock the cesspool
      - open bottle, pour liquid in pool. After getting the SILVER
      COIN hurry back to the tunnel North of the sewer, and take
      off mask and drop it. Return to Cavern.

   10. Moving the Boulder.
      Put coin in right indentation. When all 3 indentations are
      filled with the matching objects, the boulder moves aside and
      the 3 objects fall out. Collect all the treasures (8
      altogether) and go South.........to a very disappointing
      ending.
