TORIN'S PASSAGE (Sierra) - Part 1 From Phil Darke CHAPTER ONE- THE LANDS ABOVE Torin's Passage is a CD adventure from Sierra in which you play Torin, a young farm hand whose parents have mysteriously disappeared. After the introduction pick up the axe and the rope from the barn. Enter the house and click on the basket and pick up Inch Worm. Now click on the table and pick up the pouch. Leave the house and head south. Pick some berries and go west to the hut. Read the sign on the door and use the axe on the blue crystals. An old man appears, he refuses to help you but tells you that he is waiting for his replacement. Knock on the door and tell him that you are his replacement. Enter the hut and talk to the man. He tells you that before he leaves you must prepare a final meal for him. As a starter he wants berry juice so give him the berries. For his main course he wants Sluggetti and Peat balls. Leave the hut and go east and take the path leading north. Climb onto the lower branch to discover that you are over a peat bog. Climb onto the top branch. Select the rope from your inventory and click it on the branch and then on yourself. Now perform a bungee jump to get some peat. Click on the screen just to the left of the broken branch to start swinging, click again as you are moving right and keep repeating this until you can swing far enough to reach the branch. Now you need to get some slugs. Go back to the east to where there are some slugs on a tree. Click on the slugs, they are too quick for you to catch. Take the north path to the left of the tree. Select Inch Worm from your inventory and click him on the large leaf on the right of the screen. Take the leaf and go down. Go back west to the large tree, there are two snails half way up the tree. Talk to them and they agree to help you in exchange for the leaf. Go east and take the path south to Crystal City. Put the snails into the moat and you will receive some scum. Return to the tree with the slugs and drop the scum on the tree. Select Boogle from your inventory and click on the scum. Boogle turns into a box and makes a trap. Walk away from the tree and the slugs are trapped by Boogle. Return to the hut and prepare the old man's meal. He now wants root for dessert. Leave the hut and go to the first tree you come to, one of the roots is square in shape. Use the axe on it and return to the hut. Prepare a root pie. The old man now opens a secret passage. Click on the stone at the top of the screen. Click the shard on the four holes until all the stones in the centre drop down. A cup like container rises from the floor. Fill the pouch with the powder from this container. Use the powder on the blue crystal to be transported to the lands below. CHAPTER TWO - ESCARPA You fall onto a platform together with a tile. Pick up the tile and go up the steps to your right. At the top you will see another tile attached to the cliff face, grab it and you will fall back down to where you arrived. To your left is a door. Go to it. Here you will meet the the Bitternut family. There is another tile on the table but you can't take it yet. Talk to Mrs. Bitternut until all topics are exhausted. Leave and go down the left cliff until you meet a two headed vulture. He refuses to let you pass. Talk to the vultures until you discover that they want some meat. Go back to where you saw the washer woman and enter the door behind the waterfall. Go to the right and talk to the King. Keep talking until he tells you about his daughter. Click on the shards hanging from the ceiling. Give the shard from your inventory to the King. In return he will give you an invitation to the royal ball. Ask about his daughter and the queen will give you a locket. Take the meat from the table and leave. Go to the Bitternuts and give the invitation to Mrs. Bitternut. You can now take the tile. Leave and go back to the washer woman. Take the clothes peg from the washing line. Go down the next set of steps to where there is a slide on the side of the cliff. Put the meat on the slide and the Vulture will fly away. Enter the cave on the left. Take the tile. There is a small door here. Click on the worm in Boogle's inventory and get him to go through the door. It is dark here so click on the lantern in Boogle's inventory. Now click on the shovel and get a sample of the Dragon Poo. Leave the cave and go down and up the steps past the Vulture's nest. Jump across the gap and climb down the cliff. Enter the cave and take the pillow, carpet, fan and tile. Go as far as possible to the right and take the sign. Go back up and enter the cave. The skunks will not let you pass. Put the clothes peg on Torin's nose and click the carpet on Torin. Go through the cave and up the steps. Talk to the creature at the top and exchange the cushion for the tile. Go back down to the cave where you got the carpet. Stay on the balcony and move the vertical handle down until you can see the balcony below. Drop the carpet here, then use the fan on it. When the women have left go back into the cave. Do not try to go down the ladder. Instead turn Boogle into a Yo Yo and send him down and tell him to get the tile which is hanging there. Leave and return to the Vulture's nest. Move the vertical handle down until you can see the tree. Put the Dragon Poo on the tree. It will now grow and you will be able to climb down. Go up the steps and put some of the tiles onto the square. Go back to the washer woman and give her the sign. She will wash it and it is now a tile. Return to King Rupert and ask him for the tile on his floor. Now go back down the tree. You should now have 9 tiles. If you move the cursor over each tile, each one has a unique description. Arrange the tiles on the square in the following order, from top left to bottom right:- 1. A tile 2. What, another tile 3. Another tile 4. Tile, formerly known as sign 5. What me tile 6. Infan tile (there are 2 infan tiles, this is the one with a straight line. 7. Infan tile (with curved line) 8. Still another tile. 9. Yet another tile. Now rotate the tiles until a face is formed. An opening will appear with a set of steps. When you arrive in the chamber use the Erresdy powder on yourself. CHAPTER THREE - PERGOLA You fall through a hole and find yourself being tied up by some small creatures. Quickly click on one of them to release yourself. Talk to their leader who tells you about another person that they have captured. Follow him and discover that it is Lena. At first she refuses to believe that you want to help her. Show her the locket. She still refuses to believe you. Click the locket on the holographic projector and open it and show her again. Now that she can see the pictures of her mother and father she believes you and tells you that she has a knife in her boot. Take it and release her. After Lena has tended Torin's wounds the leader shows you a Phenocryst. This is a pentacle with ten Ositaries on it. Each of the ositaries has a hat, scarf, belt and sleeves of different colours. In order to solve the puzzles you must arrange them on the lines of the pentacle so that the four on each line each have either hat, scarf, belt or sleeves of the same colour. For example, four on one line with green hats, four on another line with red belts, four on another line with yellow scarves and four on another line with grey belts. When you have solved this puzzle you will be transported to another. Here the ten ositaries are arranged in two rows of five. If you look closely you can see that there are five men and five women. Arrange the women on the left and men on the right. When you have done this a lectern will appear with a baton on it. If you look at the two doors behind them you can see musical scales on them and you must now move them around so that when you click the baton on them they sing the scales corresponding to the door behind them. In case; like me you are tone deaf, arrange the women in the following order, from left to right. 1. Yellow scarf, grey belt and blue sleeves 2. Grey scarf, red belt, and blue sleeves 3. Yellow scarf, grey belt and grey sleeves 4. grey scarf, red belt and grey sleeves 5. yellow scarf, red belt and grey sleeves Arrange the men in the following order 1. Green hat, blue sleeves 2. Green hat, grey scarf and belt 3. Yellow scarf 4. Red belt 5. Grey hat The doors will now be open and Torin and Lena separate. Lena returns to Escarpa.
