Zork Nemesis - Part 3 Solution by Alex van Kaam @~Concluded from Issue 45 The Castle Irondune (General Thaddeus Kaine - Murz - Earth - Iron) You start on top of the tower, pull the lever to go down, you will now enter a large hall with several archways and 1 door leading outside. Turn right form where you enter and go through the 1st archway you see up the stairs and into the room you find there, this is the room of General Thaddeus Kaine, go to his desk and read the 2 notes that are on it, then open the drawer and read, read the note and remember it: "five brave fellows stand" "guard over my dungeon" "three are blind" "two can see" "but as a whole" "they form the key" Take the little flask of nitro, now go to the bed and read the book, next try to open the chest and you will find it is locked, use the nitro on the chest to blow the lock, first read the notes you find there. One is about 2 weapons in the shape of animals and the others are from Madame Sophia Hamilton, then take a look at both the maps and make notes. Go to the little tables to the right and read all 3 books, notice the comments in the encryption book about the best secret is the one you don't have to hide and that encryption is a game !!!!, learn about this war with Ellron. Leave the room and turn left and go up the stairs, then go left again to enter the games room, read the sign left of the pool table. Leave the gaming room and again turn left and go down the stairs and enter Lucien Kaine's room, go towards the bed and look at the note on the mirror, then look under the closet, get the gunpowder and read the note from General Thaddeus Kaine. Then go to the table and read the paper about the Thaddium explosion and the letters from Alexandria (by now you should have a very clear picture of how Lucien and Alexandria fell in love and wanted to marry but they were stopped by the alchemists) Go to the canvas and use the pencil on the canvas, you will get the following message: 1 build bridge 2 ambush 3 dig trends 4 latrine cleaning 5 coup d'etat 6 infiltrate and destroy 7 serve mess 8 burn & pillage 9 split the troops 10 distraction 11 drop Thaddium 12 verify message Notice how certain thing fit in with the map you saw in General Thaddeus Kaine's chest, go back to the chest and read the map again. Look at the text on the map and find the numbers that stand for the same text on the canvas: 1 6 9 and 10. Now remember what you read in the encryption book, a good secret is on you don't have to hide, take a look at the book that came with the game, and look at the inside of the front cover and you will see the number 10 1 9 6 and 12 !!! Leave the room and go downstairs, you are now back in the main hall, first try to open the big door leading to the outside, you will see that this soldier will not let you leave the building. So go through the doorway opposite of the exit and you will enter a big room, remember the note about the weapons in the shape of animals, look at the dog to your left, it's a cannon, first load it by pulling its ear, then open the back of the dog and put the gunpowder in, then pull the tail and you will shoot open the door on the opposite side of the room. Next take the top half of the sword that is on the table to the right, go to the center of the room and place it on the bottom half of the sword that hangs on the wall, watch the flashback and take the sword. Enter through the shot open door into the tactical room, there are 6 tables here, 5 tables represent ancient battles which can be played off using the red buttons while 1 is about the current battle and is in fact a radio transmitter. As you may have read in the booklet that came with the game General Thaddeus Kaine used radio codes to control his troops, so enter the code you found in the booklet: 10 1 9 6 and 12 and press enter, this will carry out the plan you saw in the chest and soon you will get a message that Castle Irondune is secure again, this means you can now leave it. But before you do that go to the archway right of the stairs and examine the knight, notice his empty sword holder, put the sword you have in it and the door behind you will open. Enter the 'museum' and check out the tables, once of them is about General Thaddeus Kaine's age and holds Thaddium. Also take a look at the stained glass windows, they represent the 5 suits of armor you must have seen by now, also remember the note you found in the desk of General Thaddeus Kaine about the 5 guards. Look at how their visors are, from left to right: Knight with the 'golden' visor: closed > near Kaine's bedroom Samurai : open > in museum Spanish knight : open > right of staircase Roman knight : open > near Lucien's bedroom black knight with the sword : closed > knight you used sword on Place all their visors like that and the door in the museum behind the samurai knight will open and you can enter the dungeon, notice the writing on the wall and try out all the torture equipment, again you will hear the 5 numbers, but since you already know them you can forget about it. Leave the museum and go to the door leading outside, open it... Once outside head for the tank and enter it, examine the tank and you will find that it needs things, 6 numbers so it knows where to go, and power so it can go, go back to the castle and go back in to the games room. Look at the note left of the pool table again and notice button 3: "Fishing in the desert", go to the pool table and press buttons 3 and 5 to shoot the balls, once they are all in the pocket, read the numbers on them: 741953. Now go to the museum and go to the table about General Thaddeus Kaine, open the bottle shaped holder, then get the Thaddium and place it into the bottle shaped holder, next go as fast as you can to the tank and place the bottle in the purple holder, close it and you're safe again. Input the 6 numbers in the tank's control panel and operate the stick, the tank will now go to the local Iron mine. Once in the mine head to the big machine, it's a mold maker, the mold you need is the symbol of Murz, so create this symbol in the right window using the button in the middle of the machine, next pull the lever to the left and get the mold from the machine. Now go to the elevator and go down, once here you have to move fast, go to the machine and place the mold in it, go to the control panel and press the reset button, remember one of the notes you read about the fact that the temperature had to be not too cold and not too hot, start pressing the buttons on the left until you hear a ping, I found that pressing the following buttons worked best: XXOO XXOO XXOO (X = pressed button) (0 = un-pressed button) Now move to the machine again, press the 'arm' button, wait until the iron is above the fan and press the 'fan' button, now move to the iron and touch it, if you have done it right you will be transported back to the Temple of the Ancients, back to the round stone altar, push the Iron symbol of Murz in the table, look at the blood to see the death of General Thaddeus Kaine and then go to his crypt and listen to his story, again it is in the same lines as the other 2, please help us etc. etc. Go to the planetarium and turn the wheel clockwise until the 4th ring and the brown planet of Juperon is in the sunlight to the right. You will be transported to The Asylum (Dr. Erasmus Sartorius - Juperon - Air - Tin) You start on the 1st floor, turn right and go into the elevator, close the door and go to the basement where you will find yourself in a morgue, walk to the other end of the room and you will find a machine, turn left and get the body with the head out of the drawer in the 2nd row from the right and the 4th column, put the body in the machine and go to the controls of the machine in the center. Pull the 1st lever to raise the body under the knife, pull the 2nd lever to get the bowl under the head and pull the 3rd lever to drop the knife. Get the head out of the bowl and go back to the 3rd floor, enter the laboratory and place the head on the holder between the other heads, push the 5 buttons to get the head speaking and write down the 3 numbers he tells you, 36-24-36. Go to the big box to the left and open it, inside you will find a safe, get it and place it in the x-ray machine on the left wall, pull the lever and zoom into the safe to see the numbers 20-18. Turn off the x-ray machine and zoom into the safe and open it using the 5 numbers 36-24-36-20-18. Get the bottle and walk to the machine on the right wall, put the bottle in the machine and once it is open, get the key. Leave the lab, got to the filing room and read the 2 files you find there, examine the flashlight and go to the elevator, use the key to reach the 20th floor. Go into the only room you can, but notice the pulsing door, in this room use the little handle just in front of the chair to the right, a nurse will enter and order you to sit in the chair, do so and she will drug you. Once you're out of the chair your whole world will be pulsing just like the door, now quickly run to the pulsing door and open it, you will find yourself in an elevator, go up to the 21st floor. This is the personal room of Dr. Erasmus Sartorius, you must get the little hammer on his bed, then read the books you find there, notice the book about alchemy: "Helium Raises" & "Hydrogen and Oxygen make a cool explosion". Leave this room through the other door and you will reach a small room with a door that can only be opened using the keypad but it is under power so you can't touch it, find the cabinet with the arm and free the arm using the hammer, get the arm and use that on the keypad, the door will open and you can enter. Inside you will find some stairs leading up, but you can't reach them yet, go back to the room of the doctor and look at the model of the Asylum, pull the switch at the bottom and wait until the noise is over, go back to the room with the stairs and you can climb them. You now find yourself in the secret lab of Dr. Erasmus Sartorius, in the back you will find a bowl with a piece of tin, you must melt that tin in the same shape as the symbol that stands for Juperon, first you need power and the batteries are empty, go to the basin, fill it with water and pull the lever to pump the water into the batteries. Go back to the bowl and look right of it, what you must do now is make sure the oxygen is closed (lever to the left) and the hydrogen is open (lever to the right) the bowl will now fill with hydrogen, pull the right power lever to create an explosion, the tin will be melted and dropped in the mold, now to cool the tin off open the oxygen (lever to the right) and pull the power switch again, the tin symbol for Juperon will be cooled off and raised, now pull the helium lever to reach the symbol and touch it. You will be transported back to the Temple of the Ancients where all 4 alchemists will be waiting for you and offer you the cup with the elixir, DO NOT drink it, when they see you won't drink it the 4 will show their true evil nature, they have lied to you trough the whole game!!!! Then they will summon the Nemesis, and you will see that it is Lucien and he begs you to help him stop these 4, he throws you a ring and then you are summoned out of the room by the 4. Examine the ring and you will see the true story, how the 4 killed Alexandria and how Lucien killed them. Now with the ring go to the left fountain and touch the right elephant tusk, the water will stop and you will see a switch, using the ring touch the switch and you can go down into the basement of the temple, keep going until you reach the body of Alexandria in a room, touch her and then touch the ring with your ring, you will now have 2 rings. Put them both in the bowl of the dragon statue, push the button and he will melt it, take the bowl and put it all in the bowl of the elephant statue, push the button and the elephant will cool it all down, take the piece of metal and place it in the mold of the snake statue, push the button and you will get the figure 8, take it and place it on the tablet in front of the minotaur statue, he will place a large bowl of water on top of it. Go back to the body of Alexandria and search the ceiling to find a staff, place the staff into the hand of the minotaur statue and he will smash the bowl, now take the golden 8 and you will be transported to one of the passages way above the stone altar, use the golden 8 on the altar and the 4 evil alchemist will be killed. Watch the end sequence and you can leave the temple through the gate, turn around and you will see a picture of the Venus, look at her and enjoy the end credits. - o -
