Settlers 2 -- More Hints From Sue Scenario 6 - A Divided Country ------------------------------ The hardest so far and I didn't get the hang of it until my third go. The first time I had to stop because of a bug - all my ships collected at an island in the far southeast, one on top of the other, and I couldn't get them to move. Another time, they collected at two points. All you can do in that situation is destroy the relevant harbour buildings. Try destroying one, and that may move the other ships - check first to see where all the 'stuck' ships are heading. Anyway, you and the Reds start off on a U-shaped island, you at the top left, them down the left side and at the bottom. The Yellows are on the other side of the U - for a long time I thought they were on a different island. There is also a large uninhabited land mass on the southwest side which has large deposits of gold, iron and coal. The Yellows guard the gateway. I found the only way to survive was to start fast and be aggressive towards the Reds. Move east as quickly as you can, but stop gold coins being delivered to the soldiers who aren't near the 'front'. As your front line advances, remember to continue to stop gold deliveries. Send your first ship to the northeast and start building. Send the second to the southwest for gold etc. Then go to the bottom of the U (it looks like the far southeast on the map. Build north from here. I found any other settlements built on the Yellows bit were quickly overrun. Whittle away at the reds; if you run out of soldiers and they aren't being produced quickly enough, destroy some outlying barracks etc, preferably ones with experienced soldiers. Scenario 7 - The Snake ---------------------- Exit from your starting point, the north tip of the single large island, is down two valleys to the south. The Reds are left and the Yellows right. After 20 hours, I had destroyed the Reds' castle and progressed as far as I could in both directions. There was no more iron, coal or gold and I had few soldiers. In the end, I took a chance and demolished all the barracks etc at the Red side (since by then I'd decided the Yellows had the gateway). I then piled my soldiers into attacking the Yellows' castle. An hour later, I restored and went the other way since it was the Reds who guarded the gateway ... ah well ... Scenario 8 is still causing me big problems ... I hope I'll have something to report by next issue! - o -
