Gabriel Knight 1 - Sierra (Budget) œ9.99 Reviewed by Dave Stone, PC HD version on a P120. NB: I played the HD version. The CD ROM is widely reported to be even better. An atmospheric venture into New Orleans Voodoo by a shabby but curious bookshop owner (a common adventure hero profession). Some of the puzzles were obscure & required help, but there was terrific satisfaction as each day ended - indicating required tasks had been completed. The menacing atmosphere develops nicely throughout the Game with help from your researcher and several other characters who can be questioned repeatedly as new information is discovered. The plot is full of surprises and twists (I had not predicted the identity of the Voodoo Chief). I was however baffled by Gabriel's death at the end - pre-ordained according to previous reviews & the SynTax solution. How could Gabriel have survived to appear in the sequel? Well he can and did - but fast reactions are needed to do it. I have seen the six CD sequel for as little as œ14.99 - another bargain. - o -
