ELECTRABOT An AGT text Adventure written by: Woody Hunt On PC Disk 1141 and Amiga disk 1053a/b Reviewed by: Tom Lorimer This adventure caught my eye simply because there was a robot in it, and every time I think of robots, I remember Floyd of Infocom fame. So let's see what the story line has to say about the game before I start to play. In ELECTRABOT you play the role of a robot named Electrabot. Your quest is to save your creator who has been kidnapped by the evil scientist called Barbarith. You aren't yet fully functional, so all of your special abilities such as flying and time travel are not activated yet. When finished, you will be the most advanced piece of machinery on the planet, but without your creator, you cannot be completed. To save your creator, you must free him from the evil scientist, but you will have to hurry because the evil Barbarith will do anything to your master to get the hiding place for the plans to your construction. Hmmmmm! sounds quite interesting, so let's get going. The game starts outside the scientist's shack with the familiar mailbox in the garden. Seeing as there is a key lying on the ground, I might as well unlock the mailbox and see what's in it. I expected to find the usual AGT leaflet, but instead, found a gun. Entering the shack, you make your way down into the cellar and find yourself in the scientist's laboratory complex. After coming across an assortment of objects such as rat poison and salt, it soon dawned on me that it was the typical, "kill the Beasties with the correct object" sort of game. As you can imagine, getting rid of the slug and rat was simple enough, but the handful of dirt had me foxed for a while. Anyway, after moving through the various locations killing off the monsters, you arrive in the room where your creator is being held captive by the evil scientist. Again, it's just a matter of using the correct object to kill the scientist and your quest is complete. Although I only finished the game with 85 points out of 100, I didn't have any inclination to go through it all over again. There were a few locations in the game which, when entered, threw you straight back to the DOS prompt and that really infuriated me. I've played worse games than this one, but if you are waiting on an egg to boil, then this is the game for you. It will take you as long as that to finish it. - o -
