GUMSHOE A Text Adventure Game on Syntax Disk: 992 (PC), 1087 (ST), 953 (Am) Solution submitted by: Tom Lorimer When you're fit and ready, let's start by going E E N to the dirty street corner. Examine Roderick, Vincent and Morty and listen to their story. Once you know how much money you are in arrears, you can then return to your office. Examine Marge and her desk, and when she goes to close the door, search her desk for a camera. Go E into your office and examine your own desk. Examine the papers then read the note, the bill and the envelope. Open the drawer and take the handkerchief. Wait until around 11.15 am when Sandra McBride will arrive. When she enters your office, tell her to sit in the small chair. To stop her crying, give her the handkerchief. Once she has told you her story, say that you will help her. Once she has left your office, collect your hat and go outside and hail a cab. Tell the cabbie to take you to the Logitech building. Enter the building and show your license to the receptionist. Show her the snapshot and she will tell you that he has left with his secretary to a restaurant called Giuseppe. Leave the Logitech building and hail a cab and ask the cabbie to take you to Giuseppe. Exit the cab then take a photograph of the couple. Hang around until a sedan arrives and Boggs has gone inside to buy coffee. Examine his tires and let the air out of one of them. When the couple get up and hail a cab, do the same yourself and ask the cabbie to follow their cab. When the cab stops, get out and take another photograph of the couple embracing. Read the Times, especially the sports section. After the couple have left, show the sports section to the guard. Go SW into the electronics shop and wait around until after 2.30 pm. You will then be able to tune the television to the baseball channel. Exit the shop, and while the guard is engrossed in the game, enter the building and pick up the matchbook. If you read the matchbook, you will find out which bar John McBride frequents. Go outside and hail a cab and ask the cabbie to take you to the Alibi bar. Enter the bar and buy yourself a beer. Show the incriminating photograph to the bartender. He will tell you that Billy knows more about it than him. Once Billy has entered the bar, give him a beer and ask him about Lydia. He will tell you that she lives at the corner of Lincoln. Leave the bar and hail a cab, telling the cabbie to take you to Lincoln. Exit the cab and examine the wooden gate to the south. Untie the rope from the gate and the fence and take the rope. Open the gate and go south into the deserted house. Search the wood and place the crate under the balcony. Drop everything but the camera and rope, then stand on the crate. Put the camera on the balcony then climb the rope. Pick up the camera and go east into the bedroom and clean the window. Look through the window, but if it isn't after 7 pm, then the curtains will be closed. Once the light goes on and the couple come into view, take a photograph and put it in your pocket. Drop the camera and make your way back to the ground floor. Pick up all your possessions and exit the property to the north. Hail a cab and ask the cabbie to take you to Mcmurtry, where your office is situated. Pick up the phone and dial 653-2720, telling Sandra McBride about the photographs. When she tells you her address, go outside and hail a cab telling the cabbie to take you to Highland Park. Leave the cab and knock on the door. Remove the naughty photograph from your pocket and give it to Sandra, and in return she will give you ten 100 dollar bills. Return to your office and put 500 dollars in the envelope then seal it. Return to the street and put money in the stamp machine. When the bill comes back out, flatten it and put it back in the machine again. Lick the stamp then stick it to the envelope and post it in the box. Go north to the dirty street corner and give 500 dollars to Roderick. Well done, you've solved your first case with 23 out of 24 points. To achieve full marks, you must throw a bulls eye while playing darts in the Alibi bar. - o -
