The Stolen - - Landmark?! - - of Delos (DISK PC 682) Enlightened by Andrew J Wielochowski >>PLOT & CHARACTERS<< Upon starting the game you find yourself in the office of a certain Sir Invers, who has hastily granted your requests for equipment, expenses and a reward to save the holy Great Ankh. You then discover that problems are arising which will toughen your adventure. Armed with food, catalogue, rings and help files you set out to save the Great Ankh. The game is set in a fantasy land with the normal stereotype characters; Yeomen, Scholars of High Sects and mythical creatures. Few of the actual characters in the game have much to say for themselves, but what they DO say is usually important or helpful. >>FIRST VIEW: DOWNFALLS<< The game has quite a few downfalls which are not too serious, the first one being the introduction to the game which left me quite in the dark. The title of the game soon smoothed a few ripples from the introduction. I found the direction instructions very confusing and the layout of the text on the screen is not very user friendly. Another deliberate downfall is the fact that at the start of the game you are carrying:- Game instructions, Dragontree Catalogue and Game help. This I found very annoying and not entirely useful. Also the ability to complete the game in 2 turns is very bad. Many of the place descriptions could be better. There is also a mistake in the programming so that you can pick up walls, ceilings and even forests. >>GAME PLOT & SET-UP<< The plot for the game I believe has been well thought up and is very good. The game though does not really have the atmosphere of a classic adventure game. Despite the plot the set-up and design of the game is not very good. The location descriptions are too short and need to be lengthened and be input with more detail and description. One description which should be changed is the fortress descriptions which is "THE FORTRESS". The exits for the locations are at the top of the location description and these are very confusing at the best of times. >>PARTS I LIKE<< There are many parts and ideas to the story I like for many different reasons. One of these is the DISCUSS command. Let me explain: When you are at a location and another character is present, by entering the word DISCUSS; which then brings up a list of topics you can use to talk to the character. The plot is another thing that I think is good but can be improved upon. The game has many interesting places and puzzles such as "What is the Generator for in the Well-room?" HO-HUM! >>CHALLENGE<< The Stolen - Landmark?! - - of Delos has many small and relatively simple puzzles and challenges. They are not as cunning or nearly as difficult as the puzzles in games such as Jacaranda Jim, Humbug, Zork and The World's Hardest Adventure. >>SUMMARY<< A good game with some downfalls, but with a good plot as a backbone. >>RATING<< 6/10 Could be improved by fixing the downfalls and should be harder to complete. - o -
