>>TERRY PRATCHETT<< Book reviews - Part 3 PYRAMIDS and GUARDS! GUARDS! by Andrew Wielochowski >>>PYRAMIDS<<< (I am not including the prices now as they seem to have all gone up recently. And I have no idea why WYRD SISTERS is now œ5.99) The story of Pyramids goes something like this, a lad named Jules ... no, tell a lie, it was Teppic. Anyway this guy, did I mention he was called Teppic. He is trying to be a guy in black who kills money for people. No, he is trying to kill people for mon ... an assassin and did I mention his name..... Pyramids starts off as Teppic is going to join a school, or more to the point, a guild in the bumbling hubbub of the Great cities Ankh and Morpork. He is joining the assassins guild. He is a God's son. Then one day after roots start sprouting from his feet he realises he must head back to his home, Djelibeybi, a desert kingdom. On returning he discovers his father is dead and gets involved in building a massive pyramid made of marble for his father. His father meanwhile is very upset and desperately trying to inform his son that he would much rather be buried at sea than in some dark dingy pyramid. The pyramid however is messing around with time and the long word like continue but with all those "ums". He then flees with a girl sentenced to death, who I can't say any more about, and the greatest mathematician in the world called You Bastard (a camel). ****************************************************************** >>>GUARDS! GUARDS!<<< Guards! Guards! starts by telling you the dragons are dormant. Dragons exist if people believe in them and if people stop believing in them they will cease to exist. Guards! Guards! is the first novel featuring Vimes and the night watch. A dark shadow creeps silently in the Unseen University's library. It takes a book. A book called "The Summoning of Dragons" by Tubal de Malachite. A dwarf is going to join the watch, well a human but brought up by dwarves. He is called Carrot and as the book explains it isn't because of his hair. He has got a sword but it isn't magic. This young innocent lad will soon change the face and the ways of the watch. A dragon is loose in Ankh-Morpork and the watch are right up to their necks in it despite how hard they try to stay well clear of it. Who is the Supreme Grand Master and will all hell be let loose on any oppressive vegetable shops? And then the story ended, no, tell a lie, it went onto another paragraph and the star of the story is Teppic. No, tell a lie, it was Carrot.... ****************************************************************** NEWS FROM THE DISC >>> Well, I never caught a glimpse of the supposed HOGFATHER cartoon over Christmas.
