Gabriel Knight I by Sierra Originals Cost œ7.99 for the CD ROM version Reviewed by Julian Gregory I have to say that this is the most enjoyable game I have reviewed for many months. Some stuff I have seen has not even been worth writing about. In this game you are Gabriel and are researching a book on voodoo. To help in the research you have an assistant, Grace, who you can asked to check out various things as the game progresses. The game seems to be fairly linear in that you can move between different locations without restrictions (more locations are available as you get deeper in the plot). The game is split up into sections and this comes through as different days. You are unable to progress to tomorrow until everything necessary to be done today has been done. Sometimes this can be quite frustrating, but you will find that there are sufficient clues in the text. A nice touch is that you can activate a tape recorder to catch all the important conversations you have. This saves having to write it all down and is quite a time saver. A novelty (to me at least) is that you can have the option of listening to the text, or just having it displayed on the screen, or both. The accents of some of the characters did seem to me to be rather odd. Perhaps that is why I still really prefer text adventures. Overall I found this to be a well-written game with some hard puzzles, but which I can well recommend. My estimate would be 85% - o -
