Editorial Can it really be the middle of July already? It must be, because here is Issue 55 of SynTax. This year is going so fast! This seems to be the issue for reviews of weird games. Whether you like them or hate them, it is at least refreshing to see someone doing something different in terms of plot and storyline. Both of this issue's 'weirdos' are taken from the public domain; Dorothy reviews 'A Week in the Life' and Peter Clark reviews 'Undo'. Maybe we could also include 'Promoted!', reviewed by John Ferris, which though in not the same category of total weirdness sounds pretty intriguing. I hope you've all started taking Form@t Power magazine! I'm enjoying writing my column though I ended up doing something completely different from what was first planned. I was disappointed that Paul effectively left as co-editor before issue 1 even hit the shelves but he had a lot of other commitments and felt he couldn't devote enough time to launching two new mags (he was also editing a new music magazine). It isn't available in Smiths (which I found surprising) but you can get it in Alldays, Martins, Menzies and some independent newsagents as well as Total garages. Of course, you could put in a regular order and save the hassle - and it's only œ1.50! I finally got hold of Might and Magic VI (the limited version which also contains I to V; Alan got it in the States) and, once I'd sorted out a save/load bug which struck my copy *right* at the beginning and downloaded a patch, am now getting into it. It is a very impressive game, harder than previous ones in the series, I would say, partly because the fighting takes longer. I am thoroughly enjoying it though. I don't think you can beat the M&M RPGs. Incidentally, there was a graphic sample from the game in the last issue. It was on the disk but I forgot to add it to the menu, so if you want to see it, use your graphics package (PSP or whatever) and load MM6.GIF into it. Everyone who has ordered the SynTax CD from MerC has been very impressed with it, and it is still available if you want a copy. Details are in the 'All About SynTax' section. MerC is going to offer an upgrade service to add new issues at an appropriate time and at a reasonable charge. We'll probably do this on Issue 60. Talking of CDs, John Wilson has generously given me a copy of his Spectrum Collection on PC CD, as reviewed this issue, for a prize in a competition. I would like to make the competition as easy as possible - without just giving the CD away! So all you have to do is write to me or e-mail me with a list of as many words as you can make from the words ZENOBI SOFTWARE. Words must be *real* words which I can find in my dictionary if there is a query, 3 letters or over, no plurals or real names. The largest number of genuine words will win, and I'll use the hat to pick a winner if there is a draw. Closing date is August 15th 1998 and the winner will be announced next issue. Good luck! Well, I think that's it for me, except to say that if anyone wants double glazing, go to Best Windows of Bromley Common! They recently fitted ours and did a great job. The fitters, Anthony and Tom, were very interested in my chaotic office and Anthony said, hmm, I suppose you can't give the firm a plug in a computer magazine? Wr-o-n-g! Enjoy the rest of the summer! And I'll be back in September. Sue - o -
