Past Tense (For ST (Part of 1131), Amiga and PC (part of 1001) Reviewed by Ed Smith on the ST You start from your bedroom in your small flat, a parcel is mistakenly delivered to you and you have to deliver it to the correct address. This is a lot harder than it sounds. You can play the adventure from 2 different aspects, typing 'Tense' lets you play in the present and typing 'Past' lets you play in the past. I tried this, but found no noticable difference. There are a lot of puzzles which you have to solve before certain things happen, such as finding a black rod with a button and a square recess. On finding a green cube you insert it into the black rod and you have the means of instant transportation. I found the idea quite original in which you are an ordinary person who has to find a missing secret agent. This is not a dungeons and dragons type game, but a Sherlock Holmes mystery. I found after typing a command, the result took a while to appear, I didn't find this very acceptable and got fed up with it very quickly. You don't get killed, but you can get stuck with no way out (I know, because it happened to me). Typing hint will bring up little bits of info, there are also footnotes which you have access to for further clues. A beginner will find this feature very useful. Sometimes you are told you don't have something, but on accessing the Inventory shows that you have it. This was very annoying and frustrating, in places the spelling is a bit off. My personal view is, if the descriptions appeared quicker, I probably would recommend this adventure. Rating: 5/10 - o -
