Zenobi Spectrum Classics Collection a.k.a. The Pegleg Pete Project! œ25 for PC, Amiga or Mac Reviewed by Sue Working on the "If you can't beat them, join them" principle, Zenobi decided to put together their own CD of classic Spectrum adventure titles but unlike more unscrupulous people, haven't included any titles which they know are still in copyright or still supported by their authors or publishers. There are 3 folders, containing titles in SNA, TAP and Z80 format. Each folder in turn contains sub-folders, each covering a letter of the alphabet or, occasionally, a particular collection of titles eg the Dizzy games. There is only a small amount of duplication of game titles between the different formats. For any Speccy adventure fanatic, there is more than enough here to keep him or her entertained. All the big names are here, many old favourites, and some more obscure titles. I found games from Level 9 and Scott Adams, to name just two of the better known authors. I enjoyed refreshing my memory with games like Aftershock, Colour of Magic, Jewels of Babylon and Crystal Frog and finding interesting new titles like War of the Worlds and The Thompson Twins Adventure. There are also some arcade adventures included but since no instructions are provided, I found some of them hard to get into. There was also an interesting strategy game called Robinson Crusoe, and a copy of the utility Dungeon Builder. John provides a disk with a suitable emulator on it - that way he can ensure you get the most up to date version. He is also planning an upgrade service since the plan is for the CD to be an on-going project with new files being added as he gets them. If you return your CD, the new files will be added and an upgrade like this will be priced at œ10. John also welcomes suggestions for files to be added to the CD. The only improvments I can think of are cosmetic. I would have liked some form of full contents listing and/or a menu system for loading the games or long files names for use under Windows 95. As it is, you sometimes have to load a game to know exactly what it is. But these are minor quibbles. With the files working out at about 5p a game, the CD is excellent value for money and a nostalgic wander down memory lane and back.
