CLANDESTINY - Part 1 Original author unknown, edited by Peter Clark Just a quick note to start with concerning movement around the screen. The beckoning hand is used to indicated exits in the usual way. Positioning the cursor at the bottom of the screen will give you a "spinning hand" which will allow you to do 180 degree turn and a "Hitch-hiking" hand if clicked on will point you at the nearest exit. I have used the word "hitch" in this walkthrough to indicate this action. The game can be played in one of three levels of difficulty. This solution is for the game played in the most difficult mode. Go forward once, turn left, go forward, turn right, go forward, do a 180. Move the cursor over the table on the left and click on the Brain Icon. You now have a Jump the Pins puzzle with sugar cubes. This is not too difficult and some trial and error here will solve it. In the puzzle that I got the cubes were arranged in a pentagram as below. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 If that is so the click on the cubes in this order. 5,3,9, (Here you get a throbbing eyeball indicating that you have an option. In this case click on the position where 3 was.) 10,2, (The throbbing eyeball appears again so click on 4's position) 1,5,6. Now you get a video clip. When this finishes take a hitch, go forward, do another hitch, go left, go forward, go left, go forward. You should now click on the door to get the first riddle. The solution for this is BEAST. After you enter that you'll see the family crest and see that the word "BEAST" has been added. You will also get a beckoning hand. Click on it to go into the Drawing Room.. Make a note of the secret panel but ignore it for the present. Turn right and position the cursor over the bookcase. Click on the throbbing brain and the puzzle appears. Note that each book on the lower shelf has a letter on it. Clicking on a book moves it to the top shelf. To complete the puzzle you should have a word on the top shelf and another word or two on the bottom shelf. The hint book says that you should remove five letters so click on the books F,I,V,E,L,E,T,T,E,R,S. to get the word COWARD on the bottom shelf. Now hitch to the exit, step out of the room, hitch to the Foyer, do a 180, then click on the arch on the far left of the screen. Go forward twice then turn right. Go forward, turn left, and click on the Dining Room door. The solution to this one is "WHO." Now on to meet the Vicar... The most important clue that the vicar gives is the "Six plus six equals thirteen" If you look at your own character you will see that you have six fingers on each hand!! You are also the 13th Earl! Now click on the throbbing brain on the table to get a chess board type of problem. Imagine that all the plates are knights and you have to switch their positions. To move a plate click on a plate. If there is only one place that it can go, it will go there automatically. If there is a choice of destinations you will get the throbbing eyeball. Now click on your choice of destination and the plate will go. Imagine the table set as below:- 1 2 3 3 5 6 7 8 9 10 Click on the plates in this order. 4 to 9, 9 to 2, 5 to 9, 9 to 4, 10 to 3, 3 to 5, 1 to 8, 8 to 3, 3 to 10, 6 to 8, 8 to 1, 2 to 9, 7 to 2, 2 to 6, 9 to 2, 2 to 7. Now you should be back facing the table. There is a door straight ahead. Go up to it and go through it. Go ahead twice to get to the Kitchen Door. Here you get another riddle. The answer is FREE. Go inside and you see Gram Grize. Take a step forward and click on the soup bowls to get another puzzle. This is similar to the Canals of Mars puzzle in Seventh Guest. You must form words by clicking on the letters in the soup which are connected by the noodles. If you know what you're looking for it is not too hard. There are two stages. The first is CULLEN SKINK IS BEST SERVED HOT. The second is BUT HAGGIS SERVED IS BETTER NOT. When that is finished you get a ghost video sequence. Now turn left and go to the table. Click on the book to get some weird Scottish recipes. When you've had enough of that, exit from the book, close up and hitch to the exit. Turn left. Note the cabinet. Remember the secret panel in the Drawing Room? Move the cursor over the cabinet. You get the "can't go that way" cursor but click on it anyway. You get a passage to the Drawing Room. Hitch to the door and go through. Now turn left, go forward and click on the door. Another riddle but a slightly different one this time. Click on the appropriate letter in the alphabet above then click on the letter of the encrypted word that you see in the middle that you want to replace with the letter that you have just clicked on from the alphabet at the top. The encrypted word is FPBGYNAQ and the word that you need is SCOTLAND. So first click on the S in the alphabet and then the F in the encrypted word. Repeat until you have SCOTLAND. Now go on into the Library to find out about Captain Hugh Macphiles whose legs seem to have been blown off in an accident. After watching the video above, go forward, right, forward, right, forward. Place the cursor on the table on the left until you get the throbbing brain cursor then click on it. Another puzzle where you have to guide the ship into safe harbour. The rules are that you must always go from one shade of blue to another but you can only move in the direction the waves on the square that you currently occupy are flowing. Imagine the board set up as this:- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 A B C D E F G H Now you start at A1 and your destination is H8. Click on the squares in this order. A3, E3, G3, H4, E7, B4, B7, B2, C2, C1, B1, B8, C7, C4, E6, C8, C3, D2, H6, A6, D3, F1, H1, A8, H8. Now, see that spiral staircase in front of you? Click on it to go upstairs. Go forward, turn right, forward, forward, forward, left, forward through the arch, right then click on the Bedroom door. The answer to the riddle is THE. Now you are in the Bedroom. And another animated sequence. Now go forward on the left side of the screen towards the window then turn right and click on the graffiti section on of the wall. Click on the eyeball on the lower right corner stone. (The plug). This mixes up the stones to form a shifting tile puzzle. The grid is arranged in a 3 X 3 arrangement. Imagine it is set up like this after scrambling. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 To solve the puzzle click in this order. 6,5,2,1,4,5,2,3,6,9,8,7,4,5,6,9 This unlocks the Bathroom Door. (Note) Look through the telescope to see Loch Ness! Now face the exit to the room and go forward, left, forward, left. Click on the Bathroom door. Now we have Paula setting up to take a bath but don't get too excited! This is a family game. Do a 180 and go back to the Bedroom. Return to the spot where the graffiti is on the wall and click on the throbbing brain again for a different puzzle. This one is a cryptogram ... when you click on one of the letters at the top of the screen, then click on a letter in the cryptogram the program automatically changes the letter in the cryptogram to the letter you clicked on in the alphabet at the top of the screen and changes every occurrence of that letter in the whole cryptogram. When a correct choice is made the changed letter turns black in the cryptogram. Start with the first word and correct any red letters. Continue to the second word and correct any red letters etc until eventually you solve the whole thing. The correct decoded message should read as follows:- My first is in kingdom but not in state. My second is in eminent but not in great. My third is in gristle but not in bone. My fourth is in granite but not in stone. My fifth is in house and also in home. To which I return wherever I roam. To complete the whole my last is in spite. And I'm always the first one into a fight. Once that's solved the words KINGDOM, STATE, EMINENT, GREAT, GRISTLE, BONE, GRANITE, STONE, HOUSE, HOME, and SPITE change colour. This is part two. Solving the riddle. Click on the letters of the answer K,N,I,G,H,T in order to solve the puzzle. Now you see another video clip. Now go back to the Bathroom and click on the bathtub. It slides aside and you get a secret passage to the Ballroom. Go there and hitch to the exit. Step into the hallway, hitch to the Foyer and do a 180, click on the stairs. (It takes you upstairs). Go forward twice and click on the door to the Tartan Room. The answer to this riddle is HE. In the Tartan Room you will talk to Sir Thomas about golf and history. There are no puzzles in here but you can wander around and have a look at things if you want. Some of it is quite funny. Now hitch to the exit, go outside, turn left, go forward, right, forward, left and click on the open walkway on the left side of the screen. (Not the right). Go forward towards the rock wall twice, go right and click on the wooden door. The answer to the riddle is STONE. Go through the door and meet the Monster Child. After that's finished turn to the desk and sweep the cursor over the toys until you get the brain icon. Now click to play the 13 game. This is sliding block puzzle but it's not that easy. You have to get them lined up in the right slots but the pieces can only move in a certain way due to the blocking triangular portions. Luckily the pieces are numbered so click on them in the following order to solve it. 2, 11, 12, 6, 5, 4, 3, 10, 2, 11, 1, 13, 7, 8, 9, 10, 2, 11, 1, 12, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 11, 1, 12, 13, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 1, 12, 13, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 12, 13. When you have done that hitch to the exit, go back into the hallway, go left, forward, right, forward, forward, (down the spiral staircase) and click the brain icon on the bookshelf to the right. A series of books appear. This one is quite easy as you have to create a picture of a submarine with a dragon periscope on top with the books. You must click on the book that you wish to move and then on the slot where you want it to be. The pieces then swap over. When you have finished you should have the words A-SECRET-REVEALED on the books. (-) indicates a book with a blank space on the spine. It only took me a couple of minutes to sort it out so I'll leave this one to you. Another secret panel will open when the puzzle is completed but ignore it for now. We need to visit the Chapel so hitch to the Library exit, go out then forward, left, forward, right. Click on the door. The answer to the riddle here is LET. Now go in and watch another video clip. Now do a 180 to exit the room and click on the brain icon on the collection box by the door. This is an artificial intelligence game and it's a nasty one. The idea is to have the most coins at the end of the game and there is a definite solution. To move, you jump your brown coins over as many of the red ones as you can. Imagine the board set up like this:- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 A B C D E F G H With the coins starting at D4, D5, E4 and E5 since you go first, click on the following spaces in the following order. E6, C6, C4, G7, C2, A2. You should win in six moves. When you win the game, exit the Chapel and the game will tell you to INSERT DISC 2. @~To be concluded next issue - o -
