CrossDOS/MessyDOS Info From Neil Currie by email @~Neil sent this info as a result of my plea for help last issue @~regarding PC formatting on the Amiga and Richard helped by @~sending a copy of MessyDOS for the library ... Sue I hope this is helpful. CrossDOS came with the Amiga A1200 as part of Workbench 3.0. It allowed you to read and write to 720k PC disks using the 8.3 filename style. If you wanted to use 1.44Mb disks you had to buy a new HD floppy drive. To keep the correct names I used to zip the files on the PC and unzip them on the Amiga. There is a new version called CrossDOS 7 for œ40 from Weird Science http://www.weirdscience.co.uk/ which allows Windows 95/98 filenames. There used to be PD versions on Aminet http://uk.aminet.net/~aminet/ called MessySID and MessyDOS which did the same job as CrossDOS on earlier Amigas. - o -
