News on Unknown Taken from the Net by Alex van Kaam @~This should have been in the News section but we ran out of @~space! @~Some of you may have heard of Unknown by now, this is for you @~and those who haven't heard of the game yet: Let's start off with the economy. Grand in scheme and complex to explain, Ogra did hit some things correctly. It is both a player and world economy. Items increase and decrease in price, certain items will run out. You will hear of shops looking for certain items. The game is designed with X amount of items. Do not expect to see 5000 healing potions. Or 7000 Long swords. It will never happen. The game is designed to force trading not just among the shops in the game but among the players also. Times will be hard to find sometimes. In certain regions of the game some items will nearly be impossible to find. Will trading start to these shops? Will people attempt to make a profit by travelling great distances to trade with these shops? NPCs, yes most can die. We have had a few evil characters go among and kill NPCs. Not just one or two but over 50 were killed. Needless to say we did correct that. Special thanks to the Legion of Onyx. How was this corrected? A) Not all NPCs start off at level 1 like you. Most have had their abilities edited. Two, you will not see too many NPCs out at night. Very simply they sleep. Last the experience is small, compared to killing a monster of the same level. Now about Skills, an example like Dragon Armor takes 1.5 seasons to make. Battle Armor can take as long as 5 seasons to make depending on what you wish to have it made of. A blacksmith can not take two swings of a hammer and go Walla here is a suit of plate armor. It takes months for a blacksmith to craft this. This is true with a sword. A sword cannot be created with a swing of a hammer on an anvil. If you wish to spend 100s of hours creating armor we are more then happy to give you that option. This holds the same with weaving cloth into a shirt, or building a ship. These all take time. I felt this was best left to the NPCs of the game. The Land of Krythoth was not built in a day, neither are items. We feel with Weapons Lore, Armor Lore, Mending, you will have skills that people will pay for you to use. Armories and Weapons Shops will charge much more to repair armor then say someone who is standing outside the shop and doing it cheaper. We are not saying the blacksmith will reduce his/her price (it has happened). But you the players have the power to control the economics. Now some things that have happen: We have had taverns run out of food. Armories running out of the most simple items, a sword, a shield and dagger. You will control the shops to a point. There is no one sitting outside anything and selling. It happens all the time in ShessShessmarlown. It seems Healing Potions and Long Swords are the most commonly traded item. We are using 3 servers at this time for testing. Overall it is 2 to 1 for good to evil. Except server 2 which is reversed. We use this server to test what would happen if players go on a killing spree. I will talk to the Legion of Dark Onyx Guild Master and get him to post here about some of the things they have done. They have opened our eyes on some of our errors in thinking. But even now they do admit being evil is fun, and you can sometimes get away with murder, but if caught you are mostly likely killed. Yes they have had their guildhall attacked, not once but 4 times. In matter of fact one is planned soon by the council of 13 on Server 2. I will remind him to post here. He can tell you how evil can be. The ups and downs of killing and Pking players and NPCs and the overall standings of being evil. Some of the things he has done with his guild. On the reverse, the Champions of Krythoth two nights ago were attacked by a bunch of evil mages with elements of earth. It was a long deadly battle for both sides. Which made matters worse for them the Legion of Onyx attacked right after the battle. They heard about the attack from NPCs and waited to strike one of the most powerful Guilds of Good on Server 3. The battle was quite intense, but the Legions of Onyx almost defeated them.
