WALKTHRU / SOLUTION FOR "THE STOLEN LANDMARK OF DELOS" CAUTION! This is the solution to this game. Reading it may tell you more than you want to know! Use this as a last resort. If you're stuck, first recruit Jonathan and Duella and DISCUSS with them. Jonathan is at the Monastery or a room within the 'narrow twisty passages' SW from the Cave Entrance. Duella is in a tunnel NW of the Sinkhole -- just follow the "Boom" noises (her signals). Next, use one of the several 'Helps' available during the game: HELP or brings a list of commands that get results in the room you're in, and perhaps other hints about that room. READ HELP ANYWHERE brings a list of commands that get results in more than one room. READ INSTRUCTIONS prints basic instructions for this type of game. WALKTHRU / SOLUTION FOR "THE STOLEN LANDMARK OF DELOS" Actually there are several solutions, with many variations and cross-overs. The best solution is to befriend/recruit everybody who wants to come with you and discuss everything with them as things come up. This produces a story sort of like a (late, non-sexist) Xanth novel. Three solutions are given here: I. Good, long solution. Recruit everybody and see (almost) everything. This is the one to take if you don't want to miss anything interesting. II. Good, short solution. Recruit everybody but go the most direct route. III. Evil, very short solution. If you want a quick overview, you can skip to III -- EVIL. *** I -- GOOD, LONG SOLUTION *** At Employers, ASK ABOUT RING, PENINSULA, and anything else that the interests you (try HELP or F10 for suggestions). Then W to city. At City, ASK ABOUT SIR INVERS (your employer), and other subjects (type HELP or F10 while in City for other suggestions). From City, S to Ankhview Inn. At Ankhview Inn, ENTER, EXAMINE PICTURES, EXIT, then S. At Crossroads, SW to Workcamp, EXAMINE BODIES. From Workcamp, SW to Mesa, TALK TO YEOMEN, ASK ABOUT CAVE, F10. From Mesa, E to Village, EXAMINE VILLAGERS, F10. From Village, S to Monastery, meet Scholar = Jonathan. ASK ABOUT MONKS, other subjects, ASK ABOUT STAR. Accept Scholar's invitation to visit Librarium. In the Librarium, when attacked by the Mayor, PUSH SHELF. When the Mayor drops his phaser, GET PHASER. (Better not stack these commands.) Then GET BOOK-BOX, then when Jonathan (the Scholar) says "Follow me," FOLLOW JONATHAN. Keep accepting Jonathan's invitations. At his Hideout, EXAMINE BOOK-BOX, OPEN BOX, READ POEM, ask about whatever interests you. Then from Hideout take tunnels SW then N, N to the Sinkhole. Go DOWN Sinkhole. At Sinkhole, REVIVE JONATHAN. From Sinkhole, go NW, then E to source of "Boom" noise: Girl's Cell. THROW ROPE = RESCUE GIRL. Accept her offer to join you. GET EXPLOSIVES. Return W, then SE to Sinkhole. From Sinkhole, SE to Well Room. If your friends are there to rescue you, you can JUMP. Then LOOK or SCREAM or whatever till they do rescue you. From Well Room, NE to "Large Irregular Cavern", then S to Log Tunnel. At Log Tunnel LOOK, then let Duella HEAL LOGS, then retreat N back to "Large Irregular Cavern." This will unblock the tunnels going N and NE. From "Large Irregular Cavern", go NE, continue NE till you meet the Giant Mole and TALK TO MOLE. Let Jonathan discuss, then CHANGE SETTING "Demagicker" and FIRE PHASER AT MOLE. This turns him into a small mole who becomes one of your party. From Mole's Lair continue NW, then EXAMINE FLOOR and DIG at the smooth patch of mud. This uncovers a secret tunnel running south. Go S into the room with a strange symbol on the floor. At Symbol Room, LOOK, then let Duella try to defuse the symbol. Let Jonathan DISCUSS as long as he wants to. Then USE RING (either ring) to nullify the symbol. That's all in this branch, return N, SE, SW, SW to the "Large Irregular Cavern." From "Large Irregular Cavern", go N to Oak Door. From Oak Door, W to coffins/mummies. LOOK, LOOK or anything. Let Jonathan attack the mummies with fire, then retreat E while they explode. Then go back W into coffin room and TAKE STATUE they were guarding. Then go N to Plant Room. At Plant Room, EXAMINE GROTTO, TALK TO PLANT, WATER PLANT, ASK DUELLA ABOUT PLANT, BURN CAN, TAKE HEALTHY PLANT. From Plant Room, go N to Skeleton Room. At Skeleton Room, HIT SKELETONS. Repeat till they're gone. Then EXAMINE BONES. GET SCROLL, EXAMINE SCROLL Then go N to 4-Door Room, then E to Square-Panelled Room. Using the Shrink Scroll is not necessary, but it is fun. To use it, type DUELLA, SHRINK ANKH. The spell fumbles and shrinks Duella instead, turning her into a mosquito. To bring her back to normal, CHANGE SETTING on phaser to Demagicker, then FIRE PHASER AT MOSQUITO. At Square-Panelled Room, EXAMINE WALL, OPEN COMPARTMENT, READ PAPERS. Then return W to 4-Door Room. Then go W to Pentagram Room. At Pentagram Room, ASK DOG ABOUT PENTAGRAM. Release dog by typing JONATHAN, CALL DOG. ASK LIONDOG ABOUT ANKH, etc. EXAMINE PORTAL. Return E to 4-Door Room, then go N to EMPTY ROOM. At Empty Room is a good time for the party to rest and DISCUSS all the clues they have found so far. Then go N to Broken-Mount Room. At Broken-Mount Room, EXAMINE MOUNT. Then go NW to West Room. At West Room, the potatoes don't do much. It is impossible to open the NE door, you have to return SE to the Broken-Mount Room, then go NE to the Niche Room. At the Niche Room is a door held closed by several colored chains, and a set of colored niches in the wall. To open the chains, you have to put the right object or party member in each niche. (Alternative: see III -- EVIL) MOLE, CLIMB IN BROWN NICHE DUELLA, CLIMB IN GREEN NICHE JONATHAN, CLIMB IN WHITE NICHE LIONDOG, CLIMB IN WHITE-GOLD NICHE PUT PLANT IN VIOLET NICHE (yourself) CLIMB IN GOLDEN NICHE In the Niche Room you can also PULL CABLE but it will not help you and you do not need it unless ... see III -- EVIL. When the chains all open, go NW to the Airlock. At the Airlock, READ INSCRIPTION and DISCUSS. Then EXAMINE KEYHOLE and PUT STATUE IN KEYHOLE to unlock the door. Then go NW into the Control Room. At the Control Room there is a lot to do. The last thing is to PUT STATUE IN BLUE BOWL (or whatever color you choose). But this will take you to a Win / Game-End, so do everything else first. You can EXAMINE things, DRINK COFFEE, EAT, POUR COFFEE ON PLANT, POUR COFFEE ON WIZARD, EXAMINE ENGINE, EXAMINE BOWLS, DISCUSS BOWLS, ASK DUELLA ABOUT BOWLS, ASK JONATHAN ABOUT BOWLS, ASK LIONDOG ABOUT BOWLS, ASK MOLE ABOUT BOWLS, PUT MOLE IN BLUE BOWL (or other color). If you SEARCH CORPSE and TAKE AMULET it prevents the Wizard from resurrecting here. It's more fun if he does resurrect. After the Wizard starts his Rune-Detonator, you can turn it off by USE RING (either ring). Putting a statue in a bowl goes to a Win, between 2-star or 7-star depending on which bowl you choose and other things. Best Win is the Blue bowl, next best is Yellow, then Red, worst is Green. *** II -- GOOD, SHORT SOLUTION *** At Employer's TAP RING for instructions. Then go: SOUTH to Ankhview Inn. ENTER, EXAMINE PICTURES. SOUTH to crossroads. SOUTH to Village SOUTH to Monastery. Meeting Scholar, ASK ABOUT ANKH. Accept his invitation to the Librarium. In the Librarium, when attacked by the Mayor, PUSH SHELF. When the Mayor drops his phaser, GET PHASER. (Better not stack these commands.) Then GET BOOK-BOX, then when Jonathan (the Scholar) says "Follow me," FOLLOW JONATHAN. Keep accepting Jonathan's invitations. At "Large Irregular Cavern", FIRE EXPLOSIVES to unblock the tunnels going north and northeast. From "Large Irregular Cavern", go NE, NE till you meet the Giant Mole, CHANGE SETTING to set phaser to 'Demagicker', then FIRE PHASER AT MOLE. He becomes a small mole who joins your party. Return SW, SW to "Large Irregular Cavern". From "Large Irregular Cavern", go N to Oak Door. From Oak Door, W to coffins/mummies. LOOK, LOOK or anything. Let Jonathan attack the mummies with fire, then retreat E while they explode. Then go back W into coffin room and TAKE STATUE they were guarding. From coffin room, N to Plant Room. EXAMINE GROTTO, TALK TO PLANT, BURN CAN, TAKE PLANT. Continue N. You can just go NORTH when the skeletons attack, they won't follow. At "4- Door Room", go W. Get the dog out of the pentagram by typing JONATHAN, CALL DOG. Return E. Continue N till "You can't go north from here" = Empty-Mount Room. At Empty-Mount Room, NE to Niche Room. At Niche Room, the chained door will unlock when you have put the right object or party member into each niche. (Alternative: see III -- EVIL) MOLE, CLIMB IN BROWN NICHE DUELLA, CLIMB IN GREEN NICHE JONATHAN, CLIMB IN WHITE NICHE LIONDOG, CLIMB IN WHITE-GOLD NICHE PUT PLANT IN VIOLET NICHE (yourself) CLIMB IN GOLDEN NICHE From Niche Room, NW to Airlock. In Airlock, PUT STATUE IN KEYHOLE to unlock the techno door, then NW to Control Room. At Control Room, SEARCH CORPSE and TAKE AMULET. This will keep the Evil Magician from resurrecting and give you plenty of time to EXAMINE everything, DISCUSS BOWLS and make your choice. Then PUT STATUE IN BLUE BOWL (or whichever color you choose). Note -- putting the statue in a bowl will take you to a game ending, so explore everything else first! Putting a statue in a bowl ends the game, Winning 2-star to 7-star depending on which bowl you choose and other things. Best Win is the Blue bowl, next best is Yellow, then Red, worst is Green. *** III -- EVIL, SHORT SOLUTION *** At Employer's, TAP BLACK RING for instructions. Then go: SOUTH to Ankhview Inn SOUTH to crossroads SOUTH to Village WEST to Mesa SOUTH to Cave In the Cave and tunnels, go: SW to a hidden chamber, "Hideout". Ignore Scholar. Through passages: SW, N, N to Sinkhole, then DOWN into the sinkhole. From below the sinkhole, NW, E to the "Girl's cell." Ignore the girl but GET EXPLOSIVES. Then return W and SE to below the sinkhole. Then go E to the "Large Irregular Cavern". There FIRE EXPLOSIVES. This will unblock the tunnels going north and northeast. At this point, for realism, you would use the unblocked tunnel that goes north and work/fight your way north through several rooms till you find a door with many colored chains across it and a cable by it. In the best solution, you have already found all the creatures and objects needed to unlock the chains one by one. In the short/evil solution, you discover that the cable is an emergency over-ride: by creating an emergency situation, you can then pull the cable and it will drop all the chains at once. To create this emergency situation, you would backtrack to the "Large Irregular Cavern". From "Large Irregular Cavern", take the NE tunnel. Continue NE till you meet a Giant Mole. KILL MOLE WITH EXPLOSIVES. This blast will also activate the detonator which the mole was guarding, starting a humming countdown to an explosion which will destroy the whole dungeon, including yourself, in X turns, if you're still in it. Quickly return SW to the "Large Irregular Cavern," then go: N to door W to coffins/mummies. LOOK or something till the mummies come out. Then THROW TORCH AT MUMMIES, then quickly back E while they all explode. Then back W to the mummy room and GET STATUE the mummies were guarding. Then keep going NORTH as far as you can, (ignoring skeletons etc) till "You can't go north from here" -- "Empty Mount Room". Then NE to the room with the chained door. PULL CABLE and (because the detonator is humming/counting-down) it will open the door. Then USE RING to nullify the detonator (either ring will do it). NW to the airlock. PUT STATUE IN KEYHOLE to open the techno door. NW into the Control Room. PUT STATUE IN BLUE BOWL (or whatever color you choose). Ignore the Evil Wizard (tho you may have to repeat your PUT STATUE IN .... BOWL command if he interrupts you at the wrong time). Putting the statue in a bowl takes you to a Win between 2-stars and 7-stars, depending on which bowl and other factors. Best Win is the Blue bowl, next best is Yellow, then Red, worst is Green. - o -
