Baldur's Gate - Part 3 Solution v1.0 by Alex van Kaam @~Continued from Issue 60 Chapter 1 Stone Circle Area Imoen will join you, take good care of her since she is a Thief, and you will need one later in the game. Head north on this map (Stone Ring area), through the woods till you reach the stone circle, this is the place where Gorion died, examine all the bodies and get all the items, what you can't use you can always sell later. Read Gorion's scroll and learn about Jaheira and Khalid, two friends that wait for you in The Friendly Arms Inn. Head back south to the road, and then follow it to the east, you will encounter Klossel, just talk to him, he will give you some advice and then walk off. Continue the road to the east and you will meet 2 more people, Montaron (Halfling Fighter/Thief, Neutral Evil) and Xzar (Human Necromancer, Chaotic Evil). Talk to Xzar (choices 1, 3) and they will join you. They are not the best members to add to your party, but for now they will do. Continue following the road and you will meet Binkos, he has no time to talk since there has been another Caravan raided to the north/east of Beregost. Now all you need to do in this area is explore it all. There are a few Bears (difficult at this stage), Wolves and some Diseased Gibberlings. Try to kill them all so you gain some experience. You will probably also encounter Chase, stop him from jumping and you will gain +1 Reputation. You should also exit this area on all sides (north, south, east and west), this way all these new areas will appear on your global map. Just walk to the edge and leave the area, then press ESC to go back to the area and continue your explorations. Once you have explored the whole Stone Circle area leave it via the east. Forest South of Friendly Arms Inn You now enter the forest south of The Friendly Arms Inn, as soon as you enter it an Old Man will approach you, talk to him again it does not really matter what you choose as all answers will lead to the same result. In this area it's the same as above, explore/map it fully, leave it via all sides so you get all the adjacent sides on your global map. In this area you can encounter some Bandits (take care of their bow skills, and make sure you take their scalps), Diseased Gibberlings, Xvarts, Wolves and an Ogre to the north/east. He is very hard to kill but it can be done, even on level 1. Once you killed him get his belongings and do not sell them (or use the Girdle, which is cursed). While exploring you will probably meet Andout, a messenger on his way to Beregost to tell the governor Kelldath that his town might become a garrison if the Amnish attack. You will also meat Jase, a small kid that does not trust you and he tells you about a caravan attack that had just happened. You will also encounter Aoln who will warn you about beasts in the area, especially Ogres. And you will find the ambushed caravan Jase told you about. Once you have completed this area head north to The Friendly Arms Inn. Friendly Arms Inn Best thing here is to enter the arms right away, then go to the big building in the centre. Here a man called Tarnesh will approach you asking if you are (fill in your name). It again does not matter what you say, he will try to kill you, so kill him first. Once he is dead get his belongings and read the Bounty Scroll. Enter the Inn, Jopi will talk to you and tell you that the roads are full of bandits. Once he is gone approach and talk to either Jaheira (Half-Elf Fighter/Druid, True Neutral) or Khalid (Half-Elf Fighter, Neutral Good). They will join you, but like Xzar and Montaron they want to go to Nashkel. Next talk to Bentley MirrorShade and sell/buy what you need, remember not to sell the stuff you got from the Ogre. You can talk to Nessie to learn more about the Inn. If you go up the stairs twice you will meet Landrin, he was on his way to Baldur's Gate for some poison against a spider infestation in his house in Beregost (his house is west of the Jovial Jugglers Inn). If you bring him the bodies, his boots and an old bottle of wine from the house he will pay you for it. If you then go down the stairs and talk to Unshey he will reward you for the girdle you got from the Ogre. On this same floor you can get some trousers from a man, give them back and he then will give you some Exp. Leave the Inn and enter the Temple of Wisdom. Talk to Gellena MirrorShade if you want cures or items identified. Explore the rest of the compound and you will meet Joia who had her Flamedance ring stolen by a couple of Hobgoblins just north of the Inn, she will reward you if you bring it back. Leave the Inn (the castle) and explore the surrounding areas. Again make sure you exit (and ESC) on all sides so you get everything on your global map. You'll encounter some Hobgoblins, one of which has the Flamedance ring. Once you explored the area and returned the ring, leave the map via the south. Use the Global map to head straight to Beregost. Beregost (1) Once you enter Beregost Golin Vend will approach you and you can ask him some general questions about the town. Again explore the map and all the houses. The town is quite big so I will start top left block of houses, then centre, then top right, the bottom left, centre and bottom right as last. Also make sure you exit and return so all side areas are on your global map. On the first block of houses (top left) I did not find anything interesting, just commoners. Head over to the east and you will come to the estate of Gerard Travenhurst. You can steal some books from his bookcases but there was not much more I could find there. East of his house is a farmhouse you can enter, again not much there. Now head over to the houses west of the obelisk in the town centre (the second row of houses counted from the top). Examine all the houses and you will find the Feldepost Inn. Here you will meet Marl, he is drunk, you can either kill him or talk him down, talking him down will give you the most experience. Also in this block of houses you will find Kagain (Dwarf Fighter, Lawful Evil) he offers you the job of finding the son of Entar Silvershield (you already met this kid just north of Beregost!). I took the job and dumped Xzar, of course Montaron will follow. I then got all the gold and items I could from Kagain's store. At the second block of these houses you will meet several people, you will meet Garrick, he offers you 300Gp. if you guard a singer called Silke Rosena. Accept his offer and you will follow him to this lady just outside the Red Sheaf Inn (also on the same block of houses). Talk to Silke and soon the "bandits" will approach, but if you read the conversation carefully you will see that they are not the ones who want to harm her, she just wants to use you to kill them so she gets an item from them for free. So instead of attacking the so-called bandits you should kill her. Talk to the bandits, get the stuff from Silke and if you want you can put Garrick (Human Bard, Chaotic Neutral) in your party, I did as I had a slot left anyway. Now continue your examination of the houses and you will find the Burning Wizard, not much of a pub but here you will encounter Zhurlong, he will steal 25 Gp. from you but if you return his Boots stolen by 2 Hobgoblins he will reward you. Leave the pub and continue on this block of houses till you reach the Red Sheaf Inn. When you enter here Karlat will approach you and try to kill you. I found him very hard to kill and the best approach was to let Jaheira cast Entangle on him, and then just to kill him using bows. Get his stuff from his body and enter the Inn. Go upstairs and talk to the man there to learn about the ruins. Once outside continue your sweep of the houses and then head over to the house block east of the Inn. In this block you will find the Thunder Hammer Smithy, but because of the iron problem it is quite deserted. You will also meet Mirianne who is worried about her husband not sending a message he has arrived in Amn. You promise her to keep an eye out of him or a message. The only block left is the big one to the south, here you will find Firebead Elvenhair and old friend of Gorion, and he would love a book called the Faithful Coin. If you checked out the Feldepost Inn then you know you can get it there for 2 coins, so go to the Inn and get the book, give it to Firebead and he will give you some Exp. and a book. You will also find a house with some barrels in front of it. This is the house of Landrin, he wanted you to kill the spiders, get his boots and his wine. I used the Bard song to stop the poison, it worked although don't know why. Get all the stuff from the house and then head east to the Jovial Juggler. Here you will meet Bjornin, he will reward you if you kill some of the Half-Ogres to the south - south/west. You will also meet Gurke who lost his cloak in the Cloakwood. Use the world map to head back to the Friendly Arms Inn and give Landrin his items. He will reward you, also let the staff you got from Silke be identified. Now use the map to go south of the Friendly Arms Inn and enter the area where you spot the boy Kagain was looking for. He will tell you he is already sick of looking so go back to the world map and head to the High Hedge area west of Beregost. I found that heading south was still too hard for my characters. High Hedge (1) Explore this area fully, again making sure you use all 4 exits so they appear on the global map. You will encounter some Skeletons, Ghouls, Gnolls, Gnoll Veteran, Huge Spiders, Wild Dogs, Brown Bears and some Black Bears. You will also meet Permidion Stark, a thief who is planning to kill the wizard who lives in the big stone building here. You can either try to do this yourself, or you can let him live and use the wizard for a later quest ... I choose to let him live and not even enter the building since it's of no use now. Just north of the stone building I met Kivan (Elf Ranger, Chaotic Good), I let him join my party since I could use a good ranger and I was not too fond of Kagain. Leave this area to the south. Forest South of High Hedge (1) Head east until you meet a Wolf and a chicken, kill the wolf to save the chicken called Melicamp. He turns out to be a wizard whose spell failed, offer to help him, since you can't do it yourself ask if someone else can. The wizard Thalantyr in a tower west of Beregost can, so take him there. (Head back north to the High Hedge) There is no real use in exploring the rest of the area as you are too weak for it yet. High Hedge (2) Bring Melicamp to the wizard in High Hedge, talk to him twice, the second time use (4, 1, 2, 1), you will need a skull. Since you have slain some skeletons around here go get a skull and return with it to Thalantyr. Now please save the game, the result of the spell changes, sometimes Melicamp will die sometimes he will be helped back to his human form. Once he is back to his human form talk to Thalantyr to get your Exp. I then went back to Beregost and sold/bought what I had/needed. I then left Beregost via the south exit. South of Beregost Again explore the area, make sure you try all exits so your global map will show all areas. You will encounter some Hobgoblins Elite, Gibberlings, Hobgoblins, Ghosts, Ghouls, and 2 Ogrillions. The 2 Ogrillions will carry a scroll, it is the scroll from Mirianne's husband. Head back to Beregost to give her the scroll and gain some more Exp. A band of Hobgoblins have Zhurlong's boots. You will also encounter Bub Snikt, I just talked to him, you will also encounter a mercenary of the Flaming Fist, talk to him (1,3) to avoid a fight. Go back to Beregost and sell your items, give the boots to Zhurlong and the scroll to Mirianne to gain some experience. I then quickly went to the Friendly Arms Inn to get the ring identified I got from Mirianne and to get some equipment (arrows) Next I headed - using the global map - to the mountain area north of Nashkel. North of Nashkel As normal, explore it, make sure you get every exit on your global map. Monsters you might encounter are: Hobgoblins, Kobolds, Bandits, Hobgoblins Elite. One of the people you meet will be Lord Foreshadow, just talk to him and he will go. Also you will meet Portal Bendarwinden again just talk to him. This is quite an uneventful place, so leave it via the west exit. Forest North/West of Nashkel As you enter this area a fight will start between Drizzt and several Gnolls, the battle is in the centre of the map, help him out, then talk to him (1,1) and get all the gold and stuff from the dead Gnolls. Other Monsters in this area are Skeletons, Half Ogres, Gnoll Veterans, Flinds, Black Bears, Ogrillions and also you will meet Teyngan, Zekar and Jemby, bandits, the only way is either give all your money or kill them, I choose for the last. Not an easy battle at this level but it can be done. Torlo - near the hut - is just a strange guy, talk to him if you want. Once you have completed this area you should be filled with items, so head over to Beregost and trade them all in, also talk to Bjornin in the Jovial Juggler to tell him you killed the half ogres and get your reward. You now have completed all open quests, there are still some unexplored areas but they can be done at a later time, now head to Nashkel. Chapter 2 Nashkel (1) Go over the bridge and enter the Inn, Neira will attack you, kill her, another bounty hunter! Leave the Inn and explore the rest of the town, you will soon encounter Berrun Ghastkill, mayor of Nashkel, talk to him using 1, 1 and your next mission will be to enter the mines and check out the iron crisis. Next in the list of people you meet is Oublek, be honest to him (2) and your reputation will go up by 1. After that you will meet Minsc (Human Ranger, Neutral Good), he is a bit weird but I added him to the group instead of my Bard Garrick, he also has a quest, rescue his friend in a Gnoll stronghold far to the west. On a bridge you will also meet Edwin (Human Conjurer, Lawful Evil), if you add him you will also get a quest, again to do with the Gnoll stronghold to the west, you have to kill a witch called Dynaheir. I added him to the group, and dropped Minsc, I then got this quest, next I added Minsc to the group and dropped Edwin. (read what they say, they are both after the same woman, one to kill her, the other to rescue her. I choose for Minsc.) You will also meet Noober. What a pain! I used Entangle on him. One of the commoners will tell you that she hired a sculptor called Prism, but he left without a trace and she is going to the guards. Map the town and make sure you get all exits on your global map. Finally leave the town via the south exit to go to the Nashkel Mines. Nashkel Mines The entrance to the mines themselves is to the north/west of the map, but first explore this area, making sure you got all exits on your global map. You will encounter Cave Bears, Kobolds, Winter Wolves, Wolves, Ghouls. One of the people you will meet is Prism, near the south/west of the map, talk to him using 2, 1 and Greywolf will appear, you swore to protect Prism so use option 2 and kill him. Also you should encounter Galtok, who is screaming about Kobolds following him, he'll run off. Get all the items from both the bodies and explore the rest of the map. Before you enter the mines though head back to Nashkel and give the emeralds from Prism to Oublek and let the sword you got from Greywolf be identified. Head down into the mine area, talk to the Amnish guard, then talk to Emerson, a few steps to the south and talk to the guard again. Now enter the mine Nashkel Mines: Level 1 Enemies you will find here are Kobolds, they have plenty of arrows so you do not have to worry about an arrow shortage in your party. Talk to everybody, including Miner Dink for the quest of the dagger. Once you have explored it all use the entrance to level 2 in the south/east to go to level 2. Nashkel Mines: Level 2 Enemies you will find here are again Kobolds. Find Miner Kylee in the western area and return his dagger, he will tell you it has been Kobolds who have been killing the miners. The exit to level 3 is in the south/east. The Kobolds you kill before this exit should carry a vial of green liquid, it seems they have been contaminating the ore. Nashkel Mines: Level 3 Again you will find many Kobolds here, Ghouls, Huge Spiders and a Kobold Commando. When you enter this level you should also find Joseph's Greenstone ring. It is part of a quest so save it. The idea behind this level is you cross the lava using the bridge in the centre, the bridge is trapped so make sure your thief scans for traps. The exit to level 4 can be found in the south/east, and it has 3 traps in front of it. So stay on the look out. Nashkel Mines: Level 4 (1) Enemies on this level are Kobolds, Kobold Commandos, Ghouls, and some Gray Ooze. Cross the small stone bridge over the water and enter the cave there. Mulahey's Den Enemies here are Kobolds, Skeletons and Mulahey himself. Kill everybody, not as hard as it looks, then search the bodies until you find Mulahey's body, get all his items and then head over to his chest, once you get the letter out of the chest you have completed chapter 2 @~Next issue - Chapter 3 - o -
