MYTH MASTER (Graphic adventure on Disk 628) Reviewed by Graham Raven Myth Master is an attractive game, and I'm sure that anyone who's into this particular type of adventure will probably love playing it. I liked the graphics very much and the ease of play. Regrettably the play was easy largely because I made no progress what so ever with the game, but it was definitely easy to achieve this progress! You need to have a certain kind of mind to play, and enjoy, this kind of adventure. I'm sure that many people who are familiar with this game will probably be dumbfounded to understand how I managed to play the game for two hours and not score one single point! The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the game understands over forty different commands. After several abortive attempts to get into the adventure I was left with the distinct feeling that if only I wasn't so stupid I'd appreciate what a thoroughly enjoyable game this was, I'd score hundreds of points, solve the quest and be jolly pleased with myself. I admit that I did find the game a tad on the slow side personally, but that's not surprising as I managed to spend a long time getting absolutely nowhere. The different locations in the game are attractive to the eye, even if the puzzles were incomprehensible to me. Ah yes, the puzzles! A typical puzzle I encountered early in the game was meeting up with another character. The game understands the command 'talk' so that's what I tried. No response! This was quickly followed by 'chat', 'speak', 'yell', 'shout' and 'scream', none of which caused any response either. Me being me, I also tried 'climb', 'enter', 'dive', 'eat', 'unlock', and 'kill'. Silly commands I agree, but they caused no worse response than 'chat' or 'speak'. I was also just a touch peeved when I told my character to 'climb' the tree with the mysterious hole which is just out of arm's reach. The game insisted that it didn't understand the command 'climb'. "Oh yes you **** do!" I insisted, "it's in your manual!!" "Oh no I don't!" it maintained! I readily agree that perhaps I was supposed to find a ladder from somewhere, assuming there was one to be found. However to my warped mind, the correct response to the instruction 'climb' should have been "You can't do that", and not "I don't understand" I've attempted many text only games in the past and I almost have nightmares about the response "I don't understand", doubtless due to the enormous number of times I've encountered it!! Overall a good looking game which will enthral lots of clever people who love this kind of adventure with 'riddles'. Me? My brain hurts, I don't seem to be able to think in the way necessary to solve the puzzles. Rating - doubtless 'Earl Grey' verging on 'Hey Woo' for many of you good people out there. 'U bend' as far as I'm concerned. - o -
