ZORK NEMESIS By W.J. with help from Nic of West Wales Completing the Monastery section and the full solution of the Conservatory section from the SynTax help sheet. @~The following amendment was sent by Bill Jenkins. He said part @~of one scenario was missing from the SynTax solution and another @~wasn't even mentioned. Move away from the font and examine the glowing grid in the corner, click on the centre of the grid twice, then click on the portion of note found there. Make a note of the symbols, the glyphs on the right correspond with the words on the left. You need the glyph code for the word 'open'. Find the chapel - read all the books. Go through the door at the far end of the chapel, move to the dial at the centre of the walkway, click on each glyph for the code word - you should hear a gate unlock. Turn round to face the way you came, move forward once and turn left, and open the gate. In the museum, open the alarm control in the centre of the room, press the left button to deactivate the alarm, now examine everything in the museum, picking up the ruby and wall torch from the displays. Move back to the control panel, turn round, move the cursor until it changes to a down arrow to show a trapdoor in the floor. Click on the trapdoor to be automatically conveyed to the dungeon. Do not enter the fiery doorway yet, go down the steps and light your torch from the one on the wall, the light will show another door. Examine the plate on the coffin then open it, climb inside and close the lid, place the ruby into the centre spot of the shield, then pick up the shield then exit the coffin. Go through the fiery doorway, move forward then as soon as possible use the shield on the fire. Move forward and turn right, to see 5 skulls. These must be turned to the correct positions. The left skull is already in position, move the next skull to face west, next southeast, next southwest, and the final skull east. A secret panel will open behind you. Enter the forge. Find and pick up the key and metal then read the book. Open the wall panel and put your key into the clock, click on the key to wind the device. Use the lever to open the press, insert the metal, pull the lever again to operate it and again to open it, remove the ball of metal, take it to the far corner, place it in the bucket, click on the sandbagged lever to lower the bucket. This removes any impurities. You should now have a white ball. Now go to the machine with the lion's head above it, turn round and turn the wheel to start the lava flow. Turn round and switch the gas taps to the correct sequence, from top to bottom, blue, yellow, red, orange and white. Place the metal ball into the lion's mouth, it will melt down into the holder below. Click on the bellows to cool it. Then click on the element to end this phase. The CONSERVATORY. To access this part, highlight the green planet in the astronomy room. Part One Enter the conservatory, turn right and move forward to the door. Note the diagram on the wall to the right of the doorway - this is the order in which the musical instruments are to be placed on the chairs on the bandstand. Go through the door and turn left - note the torn poster on the floor. Move to the far end of the hallway and turn right. You are now facing the ticket booth - required later. Turn about and enter the room opposite the ticket booth, turn right and go to the table to the right, pick up the tuning fork from the trinket box. Point to the right of the same table, examine the pile of records and pick up the last two. Move into the front of the piano, point to the red box on the top left and place the tuning fork into it, now touch the fork for the tone then hit the 16th white key from the right of the keyboard, you will hear the sound of something opening, look under the piano lid to pick up a key. Read the book on the stand, this highlights the four instruments that play a fanfare later in the game. Move to the front of the writing desk, read the letters in the drawers, click on the reading lamp and drop the key onto it, touch the lamp switch and note the formula on the blotting pad. Leave the music room and go upstairs to the bathroom, click on the curtains and the bath to see another video. Read the letter on the dressing table and read the book on the sofa. Enter the bedroom, turn right and move to the end. Read the books on the bedside table. Examine the book on the bed and take the last page. Look down to remove the floorboard and find another letter to read. Now click on the music box handle to wind it up then click on the box to watch a video which is a vital clue for later. Return to the practice room. Part Two Go to the record player, click on the handle to wind it up, place one of the records on top of the turntable and click on the switch to play it, do the same with the second record. Go to the bandstand and place the instruments onto the chairs in the following order, beginning with the front chairs, place the violin onto the leftmost chair, the drum on the next chair, the harp like instrument on the next chair, then the instrument shaped like a saxophone onto the remaining front chair. Place the golden instrument with two white ends on the leftmost rear chair, next place the instrument with the purple centre onto the chair behind the drum, the tuba like instrument on the next chair and finally the popperkeg onto the last chair. The orchestra will now tune up and a voice will be heard giving instructions to a student, make note of what is said, C, D, E, B and G. This is another vital clue for later in the game. Part Three Return to the hallway, place the page from the inventory onto the torn poster, you will now hear the auditorium filled with people. Pick up the ticket from the ticket booth then click on the auditorium door, a lady will take your ticket, and will say it is for box C, follow her then turn right, climb three flights of stairs, find box C and examine the binoculars for a short video. Go back downstairs to the front of the stage, pick up the baton from the stand, you now have to conduct the four instruments to play the fanfare. I am unable to guide you with this part as it is completely dark, but the popperkeg is somewhere to the right of the rostrum, the drum is just above the rostrum, the other two are to the left of the rostrum. If you are unsure of the order of play, simply play the record again in the practice room. When successful the theatre lights will go on and access will be gained to the stage area. Go left and read the note on the packing case, Find the control panel, click on the red button then the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th buttons, you have access to the rear stage, through the hole in the curtain. Move forward and you go to the basement, go to the right of the swan, click on the rope. Go back and go into the swan, turn right and click on the handle, turn round and point down to look onto the drum, click on the drum and you will be transported to the boiler house. Look down to click onto the locket, it falls into the water, follow it, look down, again, pick it up, look up twice to the hole in the ceiling to return to the boiler house, place the locket on the 2nd lever from the left. Enter the water again, be quick, you can only exit through the door with the clock above it. Part Four You are now on the final lap in this scenario. Click on the green fish statue and pick up the tablet, find the blue/green mass on the wall to find a crystal, place the crystal into the boiling liquid nearby, then place the tablet onto the crystal to clear the impurities. Examine and memorise the diagram on the wall then click on the corresponding crystals, in the order C, D, E, B, (G is the purified crystal, this will shatter), click on the element to return to the cathedral. - o -
