BALDUR'S GATE - Part 4 Solution v1.0 by Alex van Kaam @~Continued from Issue 61 Chapter 3 Mulahey's Den Get the rest of the items out of the chest, including the Moonblade, then head over to Xan (Elf Enchanter, Lawful Neutral) in the other room, I did not add him to my party, although I could use a wizard I found that my current party was quite good. Read the letter and learn about Tranzig in the Feldepost Inn in Beregost. Leave the Den but make sure you have Mulahey's Holy Symbol and the Letter!!!! Nashkel Mines: Level 4 (2) The exit can be found in the east, not very visible, but you should see the cursor change. Mountain area east of the Carnival (1) North of where you entered the area you should meet Lamalha and her party, tell her your name and she will tell you that you interfered with the Iron Throne. I found this battle very hard and I used "stealth" to attack them one by one instead of all together. Leave this area via the north exit and head over to Nashkel. Nashkel (2) Head over to the woman who you promised to bring the Greenstone ring, give the ring to her then head over to Berrun Ghastkill and talk to him about the mine. By now a few of my characters (Neutral) begin to complain about the group (my reputation is to high for them), I just ignored them. I then headed into the temple, got all items identified, and then went out to sell/buy and rest to get ready for the next adventure. You should also encounter Nimbul, another bounty hunter, just kill him. Make your way to Beregost. Beregost (2) Find the Feldepost Inn, go talk to Tranzig, fight him, let him tell you the hideout of Tarzog, finish him off. Since my party could still use some more experience I decided to first clean up the whole area around Nashkel, so I headed to the Carnival. Carnival A normal map, so map it like you would map all your big areas. Monsters you will meet are Kobolds, In the south/west are 2 big tents, enter it, you will be pickpocketed by Vitiare, not much you can do about it. Near the 2 big tents is a small one, if you enter it you will encounter Zordral, the only way I could stop him from killing the woman was telling him he was an idiot. I killed him and talked to Bentha, she told me about someone that knows a lot and is staying in the inn in Nashkel. You will also meet Zeke, he offers a scroll to un-stone Brawnen (Human Cleric, True Neutral) (the statue close to him) for 500 Gp. Since I had the money I did un-stone her. I then put her in my party instead of Minsc, although I like Minsc I found a good cleric to be a better choice and I still had the Gnome stronghold on the global map thanks to Minsc. In one of the other tents a merchant is too kind in offering a potion, again I refused. I did not find much more of interest so I headed east. Mountain area east of the Carnival (2) A large area, map it like you would any other outside area, so make sure all exits are on your global map. Enemies are Wild Dogs, Gibberlings, Skeletons, Gnolls and an Anhkeg. Near the south/east you will meet Narcillicus Harwilliger Neen, I used option 1 on him, any other ended in a fight I always lost. In the centre/west of the map you find the entrance to a small tomb, just a ghoul there, kill him, and open the tomb to get the money and leave. Near the centre you will meet Hentold near an Ankheg (which I did not kill, too hard), I talked to him using 1, 1 and he gave me a dagger to return to a grave in a cave to the east. If you take a few steps east of the Ankheg you should see the entrance to the cave, inside is a Revenant, I gave him the dagger, he died and I robbed the chests. You might have found the entrance to a 3rd tomb on the south/east, kill the Ghouls and get the items. Leave the area via the south exit and you end up in ... Mountain area east of Nashkel Mines Monsters you might encounter are Gibberlings, Wild Dogs and maybe 1 Winter Wolf. In the west you should meet a Flaming Fist Mercenary, tell him you are adventurers and he will tell you to keep a look out for a deserter called Samuel. In the north you should meet Hafiz, Talk to him using 1, 1 and 1. In the south you should find Lena and Samuel, Lena will ask you to take Samuel to the temple at the Friendly Arms Inn. I took the body and explored the rest of this region, nothing special to find. Since I was not sure how long the body of Samuel would last I headed to the Friendly Arms Inn. Brought the body to the temple, then identified some of my items, sold/bought stuff and headed back to this region, only now I went to the area west of the Nashkel Mines. Forest area west of Nashkel Mines Enemies you will meet are Skeletons, Xvarts, Kobolds, Cave Bears and a Winter Wolf. Map the whole area and make sure all exits are on your global map. In the south/east, via a small path you will come to an abandoned village, here you should meet Darryl, Larry and Darryl. Ask for their autographs. Neat the north/centre you should encounter Sendai, I talked with her using 1,1,1,1. A bit to the west you should meet Albert, tell him you will look for his dog?. Just south of Albert you should meet Vax and Zal, bandits, so kill 'em I would say. Ruffie can be found north/east in this area, let the character with the toy talk to him otherwise you're in trouble Leave the area and head for: Forest area south/west of Nashkel Again explore it and make sure you have all the exits on your global map. Monsters you will meet are: Dread Wolves, Wolves, Xvarts, Cave Bears, Dire Wolves, Gnolls. You should encounter Dryad of the Cloudpeaks and she wants your help in saving an ancient oak. Talk to Kaldo and Krumm, whatever I tried they attacked me so I killed them. A bit to the north you should meet a band of Gnolls, happy hunting South near the lake you should encounter a Dire Wolf in front of a cave, kill him and enter the cave and get the treasure from the box. West of the cave you should find a little girl called Drienne on a cliff, you can enter the cliff by walking under the waterfall. She has lost her cat near the waterfall, the cat can be found (dead) at the bottom of the waterfall. Explore the rest as normal then head through the west exit (a very small one) into the Gnoll Fortress. Gnoll Fortress Monsters are Gnarls, Gnoll Slashers, Gnoll Elite, Xvarts and of course Gnolls. Cross the bridge and talk to the Gnarls, don't pay just fight. Then explore the area outside the fortress (via the northern path), once you have it all mapped (and have the exit to the north on your global map) go back to the bridge and head west into the fortress. The fortress is not that hard, just fight your way through and free Dynaheir (Human Invoker, Lawful Good) I added her to my party instead of Brawnen. Jaheira and Aragorn (my Paladin) were good priests by now so I could spare Brawnen. I cleaned out the whole fortress and then left via the northern exit. Forest North of Gnoll Fortress A normal area, map it like you would all areas. Monster you will meet are: Ogre Berserkers, 1 Mountain Bear, Brown Bears, Ogres, Hobgoblins, Hobgoblins Elite and War dogs. East of the southern bridge you should meet Jared, running from a bear, kill the bear get your reward from him. East of the northern bridge you should meet Neville around here, I talked to him using 1, and then attacked him and his band. On the west side you should meet Laurel, she will ask you to help her fend off a herd of Gibberlings, accept and kill the herd. Talk to her again for your reward. Leave this area and head for Mountain area west of Nashkel Again map the area, monsters you should meet are Xvarts, Ursa the Cave Bear, Wolves, Dire Wolves, You should encounter Borda, you can buy some stuff from him if you want/need. Near the centre you will find a Xvart village, and even though you will hear Nexlit the Xvart say you kill them without no reason I did not find any other way, they attacked first so ?? North/east of the village is a cave with some stuff, get it. I did not find much more interesting here so I left and headed north/west. Coast area: Full west of Nashkel Again map it, make sure you have all exits on your global map. Monsters you encounter are Tasloi, Wolves, Huge Spiders, Black Bears, Ghouls, Flinds, Gnolls, Gnoll Slashers, Gnoll Veterans. Kobold Veterans. In the centre of this map you should find a robbed caravan, near it Laryssa will stand, talk to her and learn about Brage, a once kind man but now fully mad. Talk to her using 1 and you will learn that Brage once was captain of the guards in Nashkel. You should find Brage close to the burned out wagons, talk to him, the answer to his riddle is "death", then offer to take him to the Temple of the Helm. Follow the "cutscene" and head back to the coast area west of Nashkel. Next on the list of people you meet is Charleston Nib and his boys, I used 1,1,1 and then Gallor will talk to you, it seems he does not like Charleston Nib's idea of giving everything that is getting dug up to a museum. I refused him and then talked to Charleston again, we entered the tomb. The Diggers will become "possessed", kill them. Charleston will tell you that he thinks the men were possessed by a god called Kozah and that the artefact in the room should be put back in its place and the room sealed. You should also encounter Ba'ruk, whatever you say, he and his gang of Kobold Commandos and War dogs will attack you. Once you fully explored the area leave it and go to Forest south of High Hedge (2) You have been here before, getting the chicken. Explore it, it can be quiet hard at times, with all the skeletons you meet, but it is possible. Monsters you will meet are: Skeletons, Hobgoblins, Zombies, Bandits, Wolves, Dread Wolves, Worgs, Black Bears and Ghouls. In the south/east you will find Bassilus, quite a mad man who has raised all the dead around here, if you suggest to take him to Beregost to get help for him he will attack you, best is to attack him first and then his minions. Make sure you get his signature/emblem In the centre of the area you should find Zargal, kill him fast and be sure to avoid his 2 bow-men, they can shoot quite an arrow! Near Zargal you should encounter a large group of bandits, Ghouls and Hobgoblins. Wandering around is Footy, as mad as Bassilus but he is still a kid so let him The rest of this area is not very special, so I left and headed over to Beregost to buy and sell. By now almost the whole south/west part of the map was mapped and cleaned by my party, only a few areas left, so I headed west to the coastal area west of the High Hedge. Coastal area: West of High Hedge Again explore it and you will encounter some Carrion Crawlers, Wolves, Half Ogres, Ogrillion, Ogre Berserker, be very careful with the three since they have a spell that can turn party embers against each other. You will meet Mad Areand, he will ask you to go to a pirate ship nearby and bring him what is in it, the ship can be found just west of him and in it is a ring, give him the ring to gain experience and get an item. You will also meet The Surgeon, talk to him and he will heal you all. North/centre you will ncounter Shoal the Nereid, talk to her (not your main character) and she will offer a kiss. The kiss will kill the character and your party should/will attack her, she will then talk to you and you must tell her to heal the dead character, she will then tell you she is under the control off Ogre Mage Droth, offer to kill him/free her. Once he is dead talk to Shoal for some extra experience and examine the body of Droth. In the centre you should meet a huge gang of Ogres, Ogrillions etc. etc., hard fight but possible, especially since your party should have gained some more levels in the previous areas. West of this gang you should meet a healer, he will heal your party. In the South/west you will find 3 Sirines, 2000 experience each, but hard to kill, either take them out with archers before they can cast their spells or send in 1 member at a time and hope you get lucky That is about it in this area, only one more area left and you will have explored the whole south/west. Light Tower: South/west of High Hedge You should -as always- explore this area fully, monsters you might encounter are: Worgs, Hobgoblins, Hobgoblins Elite, Dread Wolves, Sirines, Carrion Crawlers. To the south/west you will meet Ardrouine, her son was ambushed by some Worgs near the lighthouse, go north-west of her location and you should find the Worgs and the lighthouse, kill them and talk to Ardrouine for your experience. Northwest of the lighthouse you will encounter a few Sirines. Be careful. Next are a couple of Carrion Crawlers and then a big group of Sirines defending a cave. Once you killed them, enter the cave, here you will encounter Flesh Golems, hard to kill, but possible. You should find a large rock slab near some water, inside/under it you will find: Cloak of the Wolf, Manual of Bodily Health, Wand of Paralyzation and several potions. In the centre of this area you will meet Safana (Human Thief, Chaotic Neutral), she wants to join your party so you all can go raid a cave that holds a treasure, I did not add her to my group since I think she meant the cave we just raided, not 100% sure though. North of Safana you will find Pallonia, talk to her. Once you completed this area you will have mapped the whole south-west area, so head for: Mountain area north of the Carnival As normal explore the area, get all exits on your global map. Monsters: Ogres, Wolves, Ogrillions, Ogre Mage, Dread Wolves, Cave Bears, Hobgoblin Elite, Kobolds, Half Ogres, Dire Wolves, Xvarts You should encounter Sprat, messenger on his way to Amn. Sarhedra who just tells you of some Ogres to the south, kill the Ogres and talk to her again for your experience. Arghain you should meet in the centre/west, him and his gang want your iron - and- your life, so no choice but to kill him. In the centre you should find Hulrik, some Xvarts are attacking his cow, save it and you will get a reward next time you talk to him. North of Hulrik you will encounter Ioin Gallchobhair and his gang of bandits, he wants money for you to pass, but of course we will not pay There is not much more of interest here, except an abandoned house, but you can't enter it. Leave the area to the east. Firewine Bridge As normal you should explore this area fully. Monsters you will encounter are: Zombies, Kobolds, Wild Dogs and Skeletons. Bentan you will find north/west, I talked to him using 2,2,2 and he left us after that. The bridge itself starts in the north, but I suggest you first explore the whole area around the "pit" and then explore the pit, after that enter the bridge. On the bridge you will meet Poe the bard, I let him sing his song and gave him 10gp. Once you're on the "island" explore it before you enter the dungeon. East (behind the dungeon entrance) you will encounter Meilum, we told him 2 times we never heard of him, he got quite mad so I challenged him . He has some nice gauntlets. Explore the rest of the island and make sure you get the northern exit on your global map. You can go down here and explore the pit area that is behind the bridge (you could not get there from the other side). In the centre of this area you will find Carsa, talk to her, and try to help her and keep insisting on the jar. Eventually Kahrk will appear. This is one hard battle, you can avoid it if you don't ask for the Jar but it's worth it. Now enter the Firewine Bridge Dungeon @~We'll go there next Issue - o -
