Split File Shell Extension v2.1b Reviewed by Sue If you ever have need to split a large file over several floppy disks, you'll know that there are several programs which will do it. I've tried quite a few of them, but never found one that did exactly what I wanted. For one thing, I don't like to have to assume that the person I'm sending the disks to has the correct program needed to rejoin the file. I don't even feel they should need any detailed explanation of how to do it. Click and go, that's what we want! And that's what we get with Split Files. It's a free program from a French PhD student and runs under Windows 95 upwards. Once installed, it adds the option to 'split this file' when you right click on any file. There are several different size destination files, according to floppy size and type. The resulting files are unzipped onto a hard drive very easily. All you need to do is double-click on the file on the first floppy, select a destination folder, then swap disks as instructed. No special unpacking program is needed ... no switches as with PKUNZIP. It's extremely useful, and I've provided a copy on this month's disk. I hope you find it as useful as I have. Visit the author's web site at: http://www.essi.fr/~berger/ - o -
