Betrayal at Krondor - A complete player's guide - part 2 @~Continued from issue 62 CHAPTER II: SHADOW OF THE NIGHTHAWKS (Go to the Black Sheep Tavern in Romney) When all the palaver is over, click on ENTER to pick up some items you might need. Swing the mouse around and click on SEWER. You will find that James and Gorath, on their own, are at the foot of the ladder you climbed up to get into the palace. Again, hug the left wall to make sure you cover all of the sewers. Look out for a room with a chest and some very nasty folks beyond. The chest will explode since your company can't cast spells, so rest first, tackle the enemy then save and try the chest. Continue till you are out of the sewers. Nearly at the end, you will be joined again by Owyn. Go back to the Inn and buy Nivek several drinks till he tells you about a guy at Sethanon - this could be useful. Proceed on your way to Romney by way of Sethanon. You will pass by Tanneurs - watch it, here is a trap. When you get to Sethanon, use the magnifying glass to spot some tremendously useful spells. Past Sethanon you come upon a village in which the shop is haunted. Enter the tavern and find out all about it. When you leave, you will see a little cemetery in the woods, not far from the shop. Get in there and start digging. You will find that one of the corpses is missing a hand. Proceed along the road to Lyton and you will find a farm and a barn. Enter both and you will find some items. Go into the field and you will meet Max Feeber. Talk to him. Round about here you should find a chest and a mound on the ground. Keep going and don't miss anything along the road. When you get to Lyton pay the tax and go in. Check out the tavern and you find out that Glover paid 300 sovereigns for a hand. Find his house and buy it back. Nearby you will meet Lord Lyton, who wants six armours. Go back to the haunted shop, go to the cemetery and dig the grave to return the hand to it. Now you can go to the Tavern and talk to the woman, who will give you a nice sword and open the shop. Sell everything you can to make room for the six armours. Go back to Lord Lyton and you get a couple of useful items. Use the note to read it. You will find the chests the note refers to half way between Lyton and Silden, off the road to the north. Between Lyton and Malac's Cross you will find the oracle (dragon) along a secondary road. Proceed to Romney via Silden. On the road you will find one Abuk (remember where he is) and he can teach you how to open Webber locks. Carry on. Near Silden you catch the plague. When you get into town go to the Tavern and talk to everybody. Leave and Enter the boat. This will take you to a Temple. Use the option "Talk" and you get to chat with Beyla. When you leave, you are cured. Do whatever you need to do in Silden then continue towards Romney, but follow the river. Apart from some chests (the answer to the one about the barrel is HOLES; and the one about the fool, HAIR) you will meet up with some dead'uns - take control of your characters and kill the things straight away. In Sloop you will meet a brewer. Remember where he is. Eventually you will make it to Romney. Go into the Tavern and you find out everyone has been slaughtered. CHAPTER III: THE SPYGLASS AND THE SPIDER (Solve the Mystery of the Spyglass and the Spider) Go to the Tavern and talk to everyone. Leave and enter the building to the left. The guy there will ask you to find Steelsoul and will give you directions. When you get there, walk around to the back of the house. There is a trap there, get one of your characters through somehow. Steelsoul will see you and agrees to go to Romney. Don't forget to collect your reward from Romney. Go back to Silden. You must also see the brewer at Sloop to ask about the ale sent to the Tavern in Romney. Then talk to Mitchel, watch out for an ambush. When you get to Silden, go to the Tavern and talk to Joftaz. Agree to do what he says, leave the Tavern and use the magnifying glass option. Watch what happens. Go back in and talk to Joftaz again. Go and find Abuk and talk to him. He tells you about a chest near Silden. Back to Silden and, with your back to the town, look in the woods to the left. You should find three chests - the answers are THORN, ALCOHOL and DELEKHAN. But what you need is in the THORN chest. Other chests between Sloop and Silden: BARD and BRIARS. OK, now we head for Prank's Stone. There is a trap before you get to the bridge. Check the town out and touch the stone at the end of a secondary road. Use the Spying glass to spot some chests. Names give power... SILENCE, The language of men... WRONG. The Spider, by the way, can be used to poison weapons. On to Cavall Keep. As always, poke your nose everywhere and talk to everyone. You will notice a secondary road going off to the west. Leave it for now. If you visit some farms around here you will be told of some spiders. Go west and you will see the ruins of the old keep. When you get to the keep, enter the building to the left and give the paper from Abuk's chest to the guy. Leave and enter again to talk to Corvalis. Check out the fountain. Go to the Inn and talk to everyone. Use the Shop if you need to and then exit. Continue to Kenting Rush. Again, knock at every door. You will meet up with a magician. The answers are Yes and No, then watch what happens. Look in the well (you will need a Virtue key, no doubt you have picked up one somewhere - if not, find a shop nearby). You will get a Knight piece. You should meet a guy called Navon. Remember where he is. Finally, go to the Temple of Kahooli, right at the N, and talk to the priest. Leave, go south then E and talk to the prelate. Go back to the Temple, dump all your rations and sleep until you are starving. Enter the Temple again and talk to the priest. He points the finger at Navon. Exit, pick up your rations and go find Navon. Kill him and get all the wonderful items he is carrying, but particularly the key. Now go back to the secondary road leading to the waterfall. Another boring trap on the way. When you get there, use the magnifying glass to find some useful items then enter. The Knight piece will do the trick. Hug the wall to the right until you come to a room in which a Nighthawk commits suicide. On the way, you might have found some of those confounded chests: answers, Wondrous thing ... MUSIC, Shimmering field ... OCEAN. At any rate, there is a door here which can only be opened with Navon's key. Enter and open the chest (DARKNESS). From here on events are out of your hands and this is the end of the chapter. CHAPTER IV: MARKED FOR DEATH (Escape from the Northlands) Once you are in control once more, find the two chests and empty them completely: you might have to discard some items by way of the "bag". You won't be able to leave this room until you empty the chests and the two characters are armed. You can also see what the two dead men are carrying so that you finish up with a goodly array of armour, weapons and items. When this is done, leave by the East door. Search this section well until you find a chest which contains a skull key - you cannot get out without it. Go back to the original room and this time leave by the South door, which you can now open with the key you found. Go southwards and westwards and you will find the way up. Once up, you will find the exit to the NE. Chests: Wetter...TOWEL; Married...PRIEST; Absurd...ALPHABET; Answers...ECHO. You will come out at Sar-Sargoth. Check everything out. Outside, use the magnifying glass option and you will find an emerald and a note on Nalar's Rib. Use the note to read it. According to some very scant hints I have, this Nalar's Rib is a very powerful but non essential item. This is how it goes; as you leave Sar-Sargoth, check out a cemetery near by and walk around a bit and you will meet Liallan. She will give you lots of information and also will tell you that Nalar's Rib is S of Sar-Sargoth as the crow flies. Well, I stood with my back to the town and made a beeline for the south until I hit a large mountain. Following the hints, I turned west and hugged the mountain southwards until I hit a trap with three ogres. Having sorted that little problem out, you are meant to go SW and, in a clump of trees, you find a large slab. Well, I didn't - in fact, I searched and searched till I got thoroughly fed up with the whole thing, particularly since the area was crawling with people howling for blood. But you might like to give it a go. As I said, this is not important. At any rate, make for Armengar avoiding the intervening town (Harlech). When you get there, check it out and go to the Tavern to speak with Irmelyn. He will ask you to rescue a guy called Obkhar in the Naphta Mines. Leave, follow the road north until you can see the river. Then go to the right of it - there is a little automatic sequence here in which Garoth explains his plan. When you get to the bridge, cross it - there is a trap to sort out. At the other side you meet with Venutrier; watch what happens. You will find yourself inside the mines. Do NOT light a torch. Use one of those nice rings or cast a spell. Go left and find a chest with three vapour masks - they are essential. Keep going till you get to the underground river. With your back to it, leave this chamber and take the next path to the left. Here, Obkhar appears - Garoth gives him the spare mask. Now go back to the chamber with the underground river and choose Stay. You wind up outside the mine. Get back to Armengar and visit Irmelyn. You get your reward and Gorath starts asking about some hag somewhere, and Irmelyn tells him how to find her. Leave. As this point I was all set to find the hag and, indeed, to go all around the place before I could get out of the Northlands. However, outside Armengar, I followed the road south till I got to the river - I got across the bridge unchallenged and had a bit of a fight at the other end, but that's all. Next thing I know, this guy Finn turns up and takes us straight to Arutha! Odd... Once you get to Arutha you get the next lot of information and then you are into the next chapter. @~... and we'll go there in Issue 64. - o -
