PERFECT GAMER Reviewed by Michael Raven Perfect Gamer is a 2-CD set of patches for hundreds of games, making a total of over 800 individual patches and updates for commercial and shareware games. At first look, it sounds excellent, and for some items, it is, and it is very easy to use. However, there is not enough information regarding using patches and it doesn't appear to say anything about when patches are useless - one patch I loaded actually downgraded the game. Mostly also, the patches are actually slight upgrades to programs, which fix a handful of tiny errors which most people wouldn't have noticed anyway. Also, it is rather slow in operation, and duplicates some items. For instance, one program, a game maker called 'Klik & Play' had 9 different patches, all to upgrade different countries versions - there was a UK version, a French one, Spanish, US, German, and several others. Are these really necessary? Were the creators of this package planning to sell exactly the same CD-set to several countries? Plus, it doesn't have an uninstall facility. It's these things that make you more inclined to like their other programs. Overall: 72%. Nice idea, wrong stuff on the CD. They haven't worked at putting this thing together, just stuffed a pile of updates on and attempt to charge people for it. - o -
