Secrets On SynTax Disk 921 Reviewed by Graham Raven Hey Woo! Not a text adventure game! That immediately earns the game ten points, even if I don't bother to play it! I started out liking this game for obvious reasons - it wasn't a text adventure! On the down side, the help/Readme files have very little information in them and that combined with the inevitable 'dying at the drop of a hat' which always confronts newcomers to such games could have got tiresome. Sometimes it's a kind of race - Will I learn how to survive an awful lot better before I get completely miffed with the game and give up? Thankfully, I learned better how to survive! You're going to have to learn quite a bit about this game by trial and error. However, this isn't an epic adventure which will keep you at your PC for weeks or months on end, so don't be put off on that score. Each time I played the game I quickly found myself surviving longer and longer. The standard advice of 'save the game often' is as true as ever. Also, find a trainer and top up your skills rapidly for very little financial expense. That makes a big difference! There's a whole range of equipment you can buy from the merchants. My advice is get the best sword you can, and that will satisfy just about all your needs. Good armour and a good shield come close seconds to your sword. With good equipment and training behind you, all you have to do then is explore and talk to people, in a matter of days you should be confronting the dragon and being hailed as hero etc. My only remaining criticism is that the game's over now, and all I've got left is these darned text adventures to play. Perhaps I'll try headbanging instead! An enjoyable, if fairly short game, and judged as such it merits - Rating: Earl Grey! - o -
