JUNGLE STRIKE Reviewed by Michael Raven I'm here with a review of one of the best of the older games for the PC, Jungle Strike. It follows on after Desert Strike, in which you flew an Apache helicopter against the mad General Kilbaba, picking up lost pilots and men, helping in battles, and generally taking the enemy out, finally killing Kilbaba before he could escape. In Jungle Strike, a drug baron and Kilbaba's son have joined forces to conquer the world, and the US are going in to stop them. Again in an Apache helicopter, you start off in the USA, stopping bombers, mobile missile launchers attempting to destroy monuments, and capturing enemy commanders. You progress on into the Arctic (or somewhere like it), over water, jungle terrain and mountains, until finally you get the evil duo back in the USA. Secret bunkers and radar are to be destroyed, a good few extra things are there to fly, (hovercraft, a plane and a motorbike included) and a huge range of enemy forces are there to be stopped, from soldiers with rifles to dual-cannon battle tanks. Strategy also takes a part. You destroy the radar sites so that the enemy can't see you, you can use the Map screen to see where enemy tanks are so that you can evade them, and plan what to do, so that the limited fuel and ammunition on the map lasts until you finish the mission. It is quite hard, (impossible for me in some stages) but rewarding - there's nothing better than getting past the enemy tanks and ripping open the back lines of equipment. 'Hidden' areas are also there, like camps of extra prisoners, radar and the like can be found. The graphics are quite good, enough for nowadays, and the controls are easy. PLAYABILITY 88% Simple controls. LASTABILITY 95% Very hard levels which are large and interesting. GRAPHICS 82% Clear, simple, but still good. SOUND 78% Good, but nothing that special. OVERALL 87% An excellent classic game. - o -
