Baldur's Gate - Part 7 Solution v1.0 by Alex van Kaam The final part! Concluded from last issue Baldur's Gate: Western area (Upper City) We found the Hall of Wonders here, inside we met Forthel August, a soon to be bard, we told him a story and he left us alone. We let our thief steal the telescope (one of our open quests, cloak him/her, open lock, cloak again, get telescope, cloak again, leave) Outside the Hall of Wonders, to the west we met Varci Roaringhorn, he wanted our help, or better his guardian did, so we followed him. Inside we met his guardian, Tremian Belde'ar, he will ask you to go to the house of the Water Queen and retrieve his son's body. Easy peasy since we already had his body. So we talked to him again, he took the body, resurrected it and we talked to Varci to get our reward. In the centre of this area we found the home of this man called Ragefast who, as we heard had a Nymph as slave. We entered the house and talked to him, we persuaded him to let her go, without a fight even!!! South of Ragefast we found the Ladies house, this reminded us of our quest for Ghorak, but since we not yet got the skull we did not enter the Ladies house. We left the area via north. Baldur's Gate: North-west area (Upper City) (1) Here we found the Helm and Cloak, inside we met Gorpel Hind, we told him our tale of Cloakwood, and as we left another adventuring party, lead by Gretek, got very rude, we told him we would not clear the way for him. Thus another combat started and we killed Gretek, Pargus, Nader, Arlin, Wilf and Caturnak, they had some pretty nice items on them, so it was well worth it. Only thing was that the bartender no longer wanted to talk to us...oh well In the east we also found Quinn, he lost his friend in a fight against the Ankheg and asked us if we would find something of his friend for the burial. We agreed but we sold everything we found in that area, so we left him. In the north we found the estate of Entar Silvershield, he was not home so we left quickly before we got the guards on us In another house we met Pheirkas, he wanted us to steal a cloak from Algeron in the Feldepost inn in Beregost. Well sorry but for now that is a bit too far out of our way. In the centre we entered a big house that was full of Doom Guards, Helmed Horrors and Invisible Stalkers, a tough battle but worth it. Once they were killed we met Degrodel, owner of the house. His quest for us was to turn all the stoned characters (that a collector has in a house) back to flesh and get a certain helm from one of them. Make sure you have 6 free slots before talking to him though. The collector can be found in the centre of Baldur's Gate, just west of the fairground. Since we knew the house in question we went there, turned them all back to flesh and talked to them. The statue in the corner is the one who has the helmet but does not want to give it to us. His reasoning was correct and it was obvious he did not have the helm, so we let him go, in return he gave us the location of the cloak of Baldurian. If we to talk to a friend of him in the under- cellar called Quenash, he/she would give it to us if we talked to her. Under-Cellar (1) We did not go back to Degrodel for our reward but took a quick trip to the Under-Cellar and retrieved the cloak for Quenash who we found in a room near the centre, we did tell her Vaill was an Elf. We headed back to the north-west area of the city. now what puzzled us a bit was here we were on a quest for the Helm of Baldurian and we ended up with the Cloak of Baldurian, Helm and Cloak, the Tavern! Baldur's Gate: North-west area (Upper City) (2) We headed over to the Helm and Cloak, after a good search we found the helm of Baldurian behind a tapestry on the 2nd floor. With the helm we headed back to Degrodel, he took the helmet and left 3 of his servants. They attacked us so as fast as I could I let my mage cast a web spell and we attacked Degrodel and his servants! We left the area via the east. Baldur's Gate: Palace Area (1) In the south-west we met Bhenen, we could not make much sense of him, so we left. Next to him we found Rinnie, she was looking for the history of the Unicorns Run. We agreed to keep look out for it and left her. We were not allowed to enter the palace so we continued our search of this area. In the centre we met Ramazith, he requested us to bring him the Nymph from Ragefast. He then left. Since we already freed her but we did have a lock of her hair we thought he might like that, so we followed him into the house and spoke to him again. He was very angry and challenged us to reach him at the top floor of his tower. I only sent 1 character after him, up all the floors, avoiding the monsters there and once on the top floor he killed Ramazith. Search this floor since there are many useful items here including the book that Rinnie wanted. Give it to her and then explore the rest of the area. South-east of Ramazith you should find the Three Old Kegs, which brought us back to the quest for the Ghorak. So our thief searched the building and found the skull on the 1st floor. On the 2nd floor we met a noble woman who was being black mailed by Cyrdemac. We agreed to help her. We continued our search of this area and entered the house of Master Jardak, his servant called Drelik got quite mad when we asked him why he was dressed in such silly colours . After killing him we went up the stairs and met Jardak, telling him his servant attacked us did not help. He had some nice items on him, so it was worth it. We found nothing more of interest so we left the area and quickly headed over to the Ladies Hall in the western area of Baldur's Gate. We talked to Agnasia and she took the skull. We headed quickly to Ghorak and although he was thankful we gained nothing more. On our way to the last part of Baldur we stopped by the Elfsong and talked to Cyrdemac, we found him on the 1st floor, told him we had some merchandise and we went to his room, here we asked him to tell his friends to leave. He said no so we then told him why we were here. He attacked us. That was the last thing he did. We also gave the Telescope to Brevlik. Next we headed to the lady, got our reward and we left via the east exit of this area. Baldur's Gate: North-east area (upper city) We explored this area as normal and entered the Blushing Mermaid, here a huge ogre by the name of Lazre approached us, another bounty hunter. We killed him. Once outside we met Brielbara who hired us to track down Yago so her child would be cured. Yago is to be found on the Low Lantern. Brielbara would wait for us in the Splurging Sturgeon, a bar close to her location (up some stairs). We headed to the harbour and onto the Low Lantern. Yago was easily found on one of the lower decks, but would not listen to us. We killed him and took his book of curses which we brought to Brielbara. Baldur's Gate: North-east area (lower city) When we entered this area a man called Marek and his partner Lothander approached us and gave us a final warning about meddling with the Iron Throne. We also found the Merchant League ,and Jacil the watchman(?) was not too happy. After the battle we explored the house but there was nothing to be found. That was about it, all areas of Baldur's Gate were explored so we headed of the Iron Fist Barracks and talked to the Duke. Chapter 6 Candlekeep Make your way to the gate and give the Book you got from the Duke, it will allow you to enter. I first explored the area outside the central keep, talked to everybody and learned that the visitors from the Iron Throne were still around. Enter the priest quarters to the north and you should find a priest and a dead cat. Question him and he will turn into a doppelganger, kill him. In the south in the bunkhouse you will meet Parda, he will also warn you that something is wrong. Once you made full circle head for the centre building and a man called Cadderly will approach you, tell him your name and that Candlekeep was your home for many years. I then used options 3 and 1 and he told me people were waiting for me in the Central Keep. Head for the Central Keep. Candlekeep: Central Keep: Level 1 Walk north and Karan will approach you, talk to him using options 2 and 2, he will tell you about something strange that has happened involving someone named Koveras. He should still be in the building! If you go more to the north Theodon and Jessup will talk to you, talk to him, be nice and ask him how HE has been. Be nice, in the end you can leave West of them is a student, he will tell you that the people from the Iron Throne always meet with others on the 3rd floor. Every single day!. Take the stairs in the centre to go to the next floor. Candlekeep: Central Keep: Level 2 As you enter the 2nd floor Bendalis will approach you, ask him what is worrying him and he will tell you that 2 un-merchant like merchants are hanging around and some of the monks are acting strange. If you ask who that might be he will tell you that it is Koveras. The second time you hear his name! You will also hear the young Shistal is a completely different person (doppelgangers?). A bit to the north-west a Chanter will approach you, ask for his help and ask him about places in the keep you do not know off. He will tell you that Alaundo the Seer is entombed deep within the bowels of the keep. In the south-east you will encounter Koveras, I knew by now he was up to no good, but I pretended I trusted him so I talked to him. He gave me Gorion's ring and told me the leaders of the Iron Throne were upstairs and were very vulnerable. This started to look like a set-up more and more. Head up the stairs Candlekeep: Central Keep: Level 3 Head north and you will finally meet Reiltar, remember this is a sacred place, and so just tell him who you are and that you will tell the Duke all about him and his plans. He will threaten you but don't fall for it. Leave. Go up the stairs to the next floor, nothing else you can do here now. Candlekeep: Central Keep: Level 4 You should find Shistal, he does not recognise you, tell him who you are and then ask him how he knew about the Cloakwood. Tell him he is lying, and keep questioning him till he turns into a Greater Doppelganger. Kill him. There is not much more to do here so up we go again. Candlekeep: Central Keep: Level 5 As you enter this floor you will be greeted by Piato, be nice to him and he will direct you to Gorion's room (3rd one on the south corridor). Follow Piato to the room. Inside the room in a chest you will find a letter, read it. It will tell you of your real father Bhaal, and that you have blood of the gods in your veins, he also warns you about Sarevok who has studied here and would love to use your powers for his evil doings. This explains a lot about why they have been after you from the very start. Talk to Piato again and he will tell you to visit Tethtoril on the next floor. So head up the stairs. Candlekeep: Central Keep: Level 6 Once you get to this floor the Gatewarden will accuse you of murdering Reiltar and his men!!! So it was a set-up. Since you did not kill them select the 2nd option, to go with him and face the trail. Candlekeep: Central Keep: Jail Ulraunt will come and talk to you, tell him you did nothing wrong and he will tell you that Koveras as found a ring in your personal effects etc. etc. Yup you were set-up by Koveras. He continues saying how the Amn has hired you and how you blame the Iron Throne for everything you have done etc. etc. It seems you're in big trouble. Ulraunt will leave and a bit later Tethtoril will appear and free you, ask him about Koveras and he will tell you he does not know anyone by that name (were all the people who mentioned Koveras doppelgangers then?) but he tells you that Koveras is reverse for Sarevok! (How could you have been so blind) So Sarevok murdered his father Reiltar, not that that was a loss, but the fact you got set-up for it not how you would have liked it. Tethtoril will transport you to a room, go down the stairs and you will be in the ... Candlekeep: Catacombs 1st part Monsters you will meet here are Doppelgangers, Ghast and Phase Spiders Be very careful as there are many traps here. As you enter the catacombs Phlydia will approach you and turn into a doppelganger, kill him. The western passageway will lead to several rooms, some with a tomb, and loads of traps, inside the tombs you'll find a ring of fire resistance, the tome of understanding, cloak of protection +2, manual of gainful exercise and some more items. The northern passageway will lead to several rooms with Ghasts and some items. Finally take the eastern passageway to go to the 2nd part of the catacombs. Candlekeep: Catacombs 2nd part Monsters you'll meet here are Doppelgangers and skeletons. As soon as you enter Dreppin will approach you, he is a doppelganger so kill him, once he is dead head to the north and Arkanis will approach you, since I could not trust him 100% I told him to get out of here. He did You'll encounter some more doppelgangers, kill them all. It seems this is a place where they train them before they take a person over. Be wary of the trap near the pillars and the skeletons in the centre. To the north-west is the exit out of the large entrance room, go through the door and Elminister will appear, with next to him Gorion!!! They are all doppelgangers so unmask them and kill them. Follow the corridor till the exit, killing all the Doppelgangers you'll encounter. Candlekeep: Caves Monsters you'll meet here are Sword Spiders, Phase Spiders, Greater Basiliks, Wrath Spiders, Close to the entrance we met Prat, a servant of Sarevok, kill him and his companions and search his body, as you can see from the letter Sarevok is back in Baldur and he is planning to take over the operations and become the Duke of the city! The Exit is south past two Greater Basiliks, kill them and follow the path, Diarmid will approach you, he thinks you are Prat, tell him who you are and he'll run off. Follow him to the exit Chapter 7 Candlekeep: Outside Rest or travel to the Friendly Arms Inn to rest and sell/buy what you need. Remember that you can no longer show your face to a Flaming Fist Mercenary. So travel carefully. Head over to the harbour of Baldur's Gate and go into the Tower of the Iron Throne. As you enter the tower, Dhanial will come towards you, she wants to flee, ask her what is wrong and you will learn that Entar Silvershield is dead and Scar is replaced. Sarevok is close to becoming the Grand Duke! You'll meet several more that are fleeing, I just let them go, I can waste my powers better on the real threat, Sarevok. Make your way up the floors. You might have to fight a few people but nothing serious. Talk to them all, it will reveal to you what has been happening. On the 3rd floor you will meet Kalessia, she is from Sembia trying to find out why this branch of the Iron Throne is in trouble, tell her to ask Sarevok and tell her you are accused of killing the leaders on the Iron Throne. Then tell her you are willing to help get rid of Sarevok. Iron Throne Tower: Level 5 As you enter this floor you will meet Cythandria, kill her and her 2 minions, just before she dies she will tell you about the Under- Cellar. Search her body and find the scroll, again one pointing to the Under-Cellar and to the person assassinating the dukes, someone by the name of Slythe and you should get the Diary of Sarevok, and don't lose it Once you go down to the 4th floor you might encounter Writhing, he will tell you that you should look for Sarevok in Ducal Palace. Make your way into the basement of the Iron Throne Tower and make your way into the sewers, find an entrance to the Under-Cellar Under-Cellar (2) Make your way to the centre and kill Slythe and Krystin, the best way I found was casting 2 webs over them and then 2 people (who had free movement) and 2 archers to kill them. You can't use fireballs because of the innocent people in the area. On the body of Slythe you will find a note talking about an assignation when Sarevok is being crowned as Duke of the city and you should find an invitation to this ceremony. You should also find some cool weapons on them, including the shadow blade. Make your way to the palace, a Flaming Fist Mercenary will approach you, and he won't kill you, so talk to him. Eltan is sick and Scar is dead. Angelo is making a power grab for the Flaming Fist, Eltan is held "captive" in the barracks. Head over to the barrack but approach it from the south so you avoid the guard. Flaming Fist Barracks (3) Kill the guards, it might be a hard battle but you should be able to do it. Head up the stairs and kill the doppelganger named Rashad, talk to Duke Eltan and bring him to the Harbour master. Now make your way into the Palace, use the invitation to get in. Palace You goal here is to save the 2 dukes from the doppelgangers, quite hard but give it a few tries and you should succeed, do not worry about Sarevok. Once you have killed all of them Duke Belt will talk to you, give him the evidence (the diary) and he Sarevok will start to attack, again avoid him, soon a mage will appear and teleport him away. Duke Belt will teleport you after him. Thieves Guild Take your time to gather your strength then go down the staircase. Thieves Warrens Monsters you'll meet here are Green Slimes, Ochre Jellies, Mustard Jellies, Gray Ooze, Doom Guards, Skeleton Warriors As you enter you will find Voleta Stiletto, struck down by Sarevok, talk to her and she will tell you of an ancient city beneath Baldur's Gate. Follow the corridors until you encounter you're 1st Skeleton Warriors, there are 4 traps in front of them and they are very, very strong, I found a hit, run, lure them around a corner tactic the best. It's a long corridor but near the end you will find Winksi Perorate, he is the one who helped Sarevok escape, killing him (since he is almost dead already) will do -10 on your reputation, so let him be and go down the door behind him. The Under City You will find Ghouls, Ghasts, Skeletons and some more monsters. I went around the city clockwise, until we encountered a building with a red roof to the north. The Temple of Bhaal The whole symbol of Bhaal is a trap, so avoid it, you can't disarm them either. In the centre you will find Sarevok, talk to him, I used option 4 (this god will not rise) and he will summon his helpers. Kill, kill, kill is all I have to say to this. My strategy was this: * Party stands south-east of Bhaal symbol Thief cloaked and using boots of speed goes around the east side of the Bhaal symbol and makes Sarevok speak. * As soon as the web spell is cased the Thief runs back to the party (the party should be outside the web spell's range). * Semaj will appear north-east of the Bhaal symbol but will transport to the south-east, right in front of the party. * You should be able to finish him before he summons any more spells/creatures. * All who have bows I now equipped with bows * Next my Druid went to the north-east of the Bhaal symbol but keeps out of sight from Sarevok and should just see the top left corner next to the throne. The Druid casts Purge Invisibility and Tazok should appear and you should send the druid back to the party * Tazok will follow, shoot him till he is close by, then change your weapons to close combat weapons and finish him * You can do the same on the west side of the Bhaal symbol and lure Angelo away from the throne, but I found this of no use. * Using the same tactic as for Tazok I lured Sarevok towards us, shooting him with arrows and then going over to close combat. * - o -
