On the Net - Surfin' Sidcup-style! Media Leech - http://medialeech.m4d.com/ MP3 Search - http://mp3search.astraweb.com/ If you have an interest in MP3 files, you'll probably want to search for a particular track on the Net at some time or other. I did this recently for one called 'Amazed' by a group called Lonestar. I tested two different MP3 search engines which I'd used before. They both use slightly different criteria for matches - if you just type in LONE, MP3 Search will also find files with LONELY etc, but Media Leech won't. Typing in LONESTAR gave 22 hits from MP3 Search and 33 from Media Leech and both listed several files called Amazed from Lonestar. However, try as I might, I couldn't manage to get onto any of the FTP sites and download the track though I have managed to use them before. From the error messages I got, it sounded as though they were just too busy, so at a different time of day you might strike lucky. Lyrics Search Engine - http://lyrics.astraweb.com Having been unlucky trying to get the track itself, I decided to console myself by finding its lyrics on-line. One of the best places to try is the Lyrics Search Engine, whose address I got from Media Leech. The front page lists the top five lyrics that are currently being searched for. You can just go to an alphabetical listing if you know the artist's name already, otherwise you can do a basic 'AND' search. They suggest you type the artist's name or song title first. I don't know what else is left because I didn't get anywhere typing just lyrics. The content of the site is fairly patchy, but it appears that they rely on people contributing lyrics. I found Lonestar and Macy Gray's 'I Try' but no luck with one I wanted by the Pet Shop Boys. The site covers some very obscure artists such as M2M and Da Bush Babees (who???) yet omits others or covers them briefly. Still, it's worth trying the site. Sue - o -
