Something different ... ZOOL 2 Reviewed by Michael Raven From the old 2D platform era, off the Commodore Amiga, sprung Zool. Similar to Sonic, it quickly spread itself over the PC and the games consoles of the day - Megadrive, Master System and the like. Fast and stunning, control 'an ant from the n-th dimension' around levels, spinning and throwing what looks suspiciously like eggs at monsters. The problem with this game is that it is so fast and colourful that it can be difficult to tell background from things in the level, and monsters from 'power-ups'. (There are sweets dumped all over the place which you're supposed to grab). The levels are unique and inspired, possibly too inspired - a bit more simple game could have appealed more. The graphics are some of the best I've seen for 2D platformers, although I admit I reckon the ones off the Sega Megadrive are quite good. If you can get a copy of this from anywhere (unlikely) I'd recommend buying it for a game, but don't go looking for it, or spend much money on it. PRESENTATION 67% Menus are obscure. GRAPHICS 82% Quite good looking, but can 'fade in' with each other - hard to make things out. SOUND 79% Nothing special, but it is an old game. PLAYABILITY 78% Controls a bit hard to remember. LASTABILITY 81% Challenging, but I'm not sure if you would continue to play it if you got stuck. OVERALL 78% A fair game, but I can't say it's stunning, particularly.
