Ultima IX: Ascension Objects Do Not Roll Downhill Find yourself a nautilus shell and carry it everywhere. When you need to get over an obstacle too high to climb or jump, simply place the shell halfway up and jump on it. Now you can leap higher up. Actually, the best thing to use is a lighthouse gem, as they are large, flat-topped, and are the largest thing that you can store in your backpack. Demon In Moonglow The demon in Moonglow guarding the heartstone can be killed very easily using a summon undead scroll. Just stay far enough away that he won't approach you, save your game, and summon the skeleton to attack it (if a zombie appears, reload the game; it takes forever for the zombie to kill it). Then kill the skeleton, and you are done. Speaking of which, when killing skeletons always pick up a body part from it; this will keep it from reassembling. But make sure you pick up the same part (such as the ribcages) if you face more than one skeleton; they seem to share body parts, You can drop these pieces when you get away from the area. Basic Cheats In the Ultima IX directory there is a file called default.kmp. When opened in a standard Wordpad or other text editor you will find the following text line: [Cheat Commands] Simply add the following lines underneath it: ALT+SHIFT+I = TOGGLE_AVATAR_INVULNERABLE ALT+SHIFT+L = TOGGLE_AVATAR_FLY During gameplay the corresponding keys (ALT+SHIFT+I & ALT+SHIFT+L) will activate the cheat functions. You may also bind the following codes just as you did the ones above: PASS_ONE_HOUR PASS_ONE_MINUTE SUNRISE_SUNSET TOGGLE_AVATAR_FAST TOGGLE_STORMS TOGGLE_SUN TOGGLE_WIND UNPASS_ONE_HOUR UNPASS_ONE_MINUTE Monster Cheat Open up the backpack (press B). Monsters seem to ignore you when you have the backpack open. You can hack and slash at them as you wish then. In order not to let the backpack obstruct your view, you could drag it to the edge of the screen. Hidden Teleporters Cheat Behind the Avatar's house near the training dummy is a fence with no gate. Normally, you can't get out. However, if you climb the dummy you can jump over the fence. Or, using the fly cheat you can simply clip straight through it. Behind this gate, hidden by a bush near a large tree, is a lever. Pull it to reveals a variety of teleporters that will outfit you with armor or take you to various places in Britannia. Be alerted, though, that there's no way to get back once you leave. So, go to the Gypsy at the Avatar's house on earth and choose your virtue/class. Next, pull the secret lever behind the Avatar's house and equip yourself with armor. Then, teleport into Britannia and make your way to the tower where you first enter the world. Open the door, walk in, and once it's loaded, activate the fly cheat and fly up into the room where you first appear. Remove your armor, magic items, and anything else you want to keep, and drop them in that room. Now, exit the tower the same way you entered and fly up to the top where you will find a teleporter. Enter it and you will be taken back to the tower with your stats adjusted for class as if you had gone through the Gypsy's Moongate, the proper items in the chest, and everything you dropped in the room initially. Disclaimer ---------- The Ascension Designers have issued this warning: Using cheats can cause certain parts of the game to "break." For example, using the fly cheat can cause the player to possibly fly over crucial trigger and flag-setting areas, causing triggers to be broken and some parts of the story to not progress. The invulnerability cheat will also have a similar effect on the game. You may find yourself loading a savegame from much earlier because a crucial trigger or flag was not set off at the appropriate place in the game. - o -
