Editorial My plans to show you a demo of my proposed HTML version of SynTax this issue hit a snag when I couldn't get the page to look exactly how I wanted it. I decided this was a drawback of using Publisher, which is ever so easy to use, but has its limitations and produces very messy, bulky HTML code. I thought it was better to wait and use a dedicated program so I'm currently experimenting with HotMetal Pro. It's taking longer than I thought to understand it, even for the relatively simple layout I'm planning, so that has been put off until January's issue. Ah well, new year, new plans. In this issue, I've updated the Gamer CD to add the latest competition entries. Next issue, there will be an update to the SynTax CD so that it goes up to Issue 70. I'm still working on the website. I'd done quite a bit but, as with the magazine, I'm wondering about redoing it. I've had a few messages about the 2001 diary - yes, I AM going to produce one again, but so much has happened here over the last few months, that I totally forgot it last issue. There's an order form in this issue and I hope you'll be interested in buying a copy. Congratulations to Mark Bradshaw whose name was pulled out of the 'hat' and was the final winner after a draw between all the correct entries of last issue's competition. Mark won a copy of Icewind Dale, kindly provided by Richard Hart of Harts Unlimited in The States. It sounds a great game and I hope he enjoys it. Thanks to all those who entered. I should have upgraded my PC by next issue. There's a computer fair at Swanley at the end of November so I'm going to buy all the bits there. I can't wait! Finally, Zenobi are still bringing out new demo disks. John recently sent me the latest one which contains demos of In Cold Blood, Stupid Invaders, Age of Empires: The Conquerors, Amazons vs. Aliens, Cultures, The Gift, and The Labyrinth. It's just œ2.99 from Zenobi Software, 26 Spotland Tops, Cutgate, Rochdale, Lancs OL12 7NX. I'll look at some of the games in detail over the next few issues. Well, it's that time of the year again when the nights draw in, computers get switched on, and we settle down to play all the games which have collected over the summer. I've put Traffic Giant to one side until I upgrade - it keeps crashing - and until then am enjoying the humour of Discworld Noir on the adventure side, and playing a golden oldie, Fates of Twinion, for my RPG enjoyment. SynTax will be back next year - until then, have a great Christmas and may good health and happiness be yours in 2001. Sue - o -
