THE LONGEST JOURNEY Reviewed by Lol Oakes I don't know how many adventure games I have played since I got hooked on them when I had my trusty little Spectrum, but it must run into hundreds, so when I say that this game is one of the very best I have ever played then you must realise that it must be something rather special. Unlike most reviews I don't want to say too much about the story line because if you take my advice and play it I promise you that you are in for a real treat as far as the story line develops. I will just say that you play the part of April Ryan, an eighteen year old art student who has been having some very weird dreams about a strange land, it turns out that she has been chosen to save not one world but two and as the story develops she travels to said land to rid the place of evil and bring back normality. This game was written and produced in Norway and the translation to English is excellent, the graphics are stunning some of the best I have ever seen, the music is also top quality. As for the story, well its about as good as it gets. The puzzles vary from quite easy to the scratching-one's-head variety. I must say that some of the puzzles were of a kind that I had never come across before [fortunately there are no music or sound puzzles] One of my favourite gripes about adventures is that far too many are simply too short, not so with this one, it took me a long time to complete it. If I had any complaint about T.L.J. it is that there is an awful lot of dialogue to listen to but you can have text on to read so it makes it not too bad. Having said that the dialogue is never boring and is mostly important in the development of the story. I must warn would-be buyers that there is a lot of bad language in this game and most of it is of the four letter kind, not that I'm prudish but it is not really needed. In conclusion I thoroughly recommend The Longest Journey to everyone. It's at least as good as Master Lu, Monkey Island 1, Fate of Atlantis and Timelapse [4 of my favourites].
