OMIKRON - THE NOMAD SOUL Reviewed by Stefan Herber Haven't we been here before? Yes - I was unable to finish the game either due to a disc problem or a bug. Anyhow when I found a second hand copy for œ4 and upgraded my hard disc I decided to start again as I thought the game was turning out to be one of the best ever. I don't know what I did right this time apart from a full install but it worked perfectly. Question is - what it worth it? The game is an unusual mish -mash of adventure, first person shooter and RPG. It also has David Bowie singing some new songs and appearing as the ultimate saviour and intellectual. Effectively you play someone who has been sucked into a future world run by a computer. All is unpleasant - this is yet another vision of the future as a totalitarian state. The puzzles don't stretch the mind too far and completion time I suppose is around 20 hours. Sadly the game deteriorated badly after the point where it previously crashed with what starts as an intriguing murder mystery turning into some weird type of SF claptrap. As usual you have a very nasty baddie to fight at the end - as usual it appears impossible till you hit on the right strategy. The sequence took me ages to complete; I even went to a newsgroup for advice - and it was all down to me having the wrong video setting so that certain objects that had to be destroyed became visible. Good try nevertheless - but ultimately no cigar. And no - it's not the third best adventure available as one magazine suggests. Could have been though ... - o -
