The DiskWorlde Times ======================== Andy Vee Name: THE TRUTH Price: 16.99 ... 2 quid discount at W H Smith The Truth. The latest and the 25th Terry Pratchett book. It is about the Discworld's first newspaper ... a simple venture that proves to be full of pit falls and makes the editor the target for abuse and violence, and bungs him amidst the middle of big plot to overthrow the Patrician. So nothing too uncommon to the Discworld then, even less uncommon when it takes place in Ankh-Morpork, where the phrase as "Common as muck" only borders on The Truth. It starts off, don't necessarily believe everything I write, with William De Worde, a simple man making his money by sending off a little letter to a few notables every month with a little update on that month's news. Nothing special and nothing anybody would want to kill you over, at least not unless he failed to mention a mysterious rain of fish. There is a moveable press in town and words no longer have to be carved into wood, they can just be rearranged. The Press came to William, rather fast actually and now he's involved with it up to his neck with the idea of producing a big "paper of news" with information from Ankh-Morkpork and the best thing is making loads of prints will be as cheap as dung ... which in places like Ankh-Morpork is often free unless purchased from Piss Harry. Beforehand his news letter was pretty much old news. But this time he's collecting NEWS, as it happens and he doesn't care what people think or try to do to stop him .. he just knows he needs to realise another edition. Which isn't great because, now the Patrician's been framed, for a murder that doesn't seem quite him, and somewhere there's his double running around. The thing is the facts don't add up and to top it all off there's the New Firm. A ruthless, but lovably pair of contract takers, one believes solely in potatoes and says -ing a lot while the other is the kind of man you didn't meet on a dark street at night, because you were already dead. - o -
