SimCity 3000 Get Extra Buildings You can get extra buildings by doing the following while in the game: 1. Go to the Power Plant menu (where you buy power plants) and click on the X in the corner to close the menu. 2. Go to the Rewards menu (where you can choose to place awards) and click on the X in the corner to close the menu. 3. Go to the Garbage Management menu (where you buy incinerators and so on) and click the X in the corner to close the menu. 4. Go to the Landmarks menu. If you successfully activated the cheat, this menu should be incredibly long. If this does not work, then reverse steps 2 and 3. Check for Updates You can have SimCity 3000 search for updates to itself by clicking the Start button, then selecting Programs, Maxis, SimCity 3000 Unlimited, and then Get SimCity Updates. Click the Check for Update button and SimCity will automatically search for and install any updates. Crooks Like Baseball, Too Every move you make has both positive and negative effects. Build a stadium to create a more appealing city, and you'll also increase crime in that area. While you're saving up for it, make sure you budget for a few crime-lowering improvements to balance things out. Customize Your Buildings The Building Architect allows you to use your own image files on your creations. Insert them into the appropriate folders (Details, Paints, or Props) in the Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 3000 Unlimited\Apps\BACustom directory. Check out the Readme files in each folder for information about appropriate file size and formats for images. Educate Future High-Tech Workers If you're planning on establishing your city on high tech industry (which can be more lucrative and less polluting), be sure and educate your Sims early. It'll take a while for the schools, colleges, museums, and so on that you build to effect the overall EQ (Education Quotient), and you'll need a high one for high tech. Hide Toolbars To open up your view of your city, click the Hide Toolbars button (the minimize icon in the bottom right-hand corner). You can still use the hotkeys to manipulate the menu, and you can click the Show Toolbars button to restore the toolbars. Hurry Up and Wait to Go to the Mall Every move you make has both positive and negative effects. Add dense commercial zones for malls and office parks to stimulate growth, and watch your Sims get stuck in stifling traffic. Make sure you plan for subways and light electric railways as well, so they can leave their cars at home and enjoy the benefits of mass transportation. Import SimCity 2000 Files You can import SimCity 2000 cities simply by opening them from within SimCity 3000's main menu (with the Load City option). Note that your older city may be adjusted to fit SimCity 3000's new features. Zoom, Zoom, Zoom Use the plus and minus signs in the bottom right-hand corner to zoom in and out. Zoom in when handling a problem, such as a fire or other disaster, that requires a bit more finesse. Otherwise it's best to stay zoomed out to have a bigger picture of what's happening in your city. Use Technologies Before They Are Invented You can use the keyboard shortcuts to access new technologies before they are invented. You will find the full list of shortcuts on the reference card that came packaged with the game. Traffic Problems An excellent way to handle traffic jams is to build thorough public transportation systems, such as subways, buses, and trains. If you create enough stations close together, your Sims can even get by without cars at all. This will also cut down on pollution. - o -
