EverQuest hints I'm a Trader, Not a Fighter Just because you aren't into combat doesn't mean you can't enjoy EverQuest. EQ has managed to spawn a pretty vibrant economy based on treasures that creatures drop when killed. Besides the copious number of items being auctioned on eBay, there's a lot of in-game trading. EQ has numerous magical items that are swapped and traded every day. EQ also has a system of trade skills you can concentrate on improving to find friends or fortune; the best ones are those that allow armor creation, and many players have found it rewarding to pursue them. How Do I Get My Hands on Those Journeyman's Boots? The booty you seek lies in the dungeon of Najena. Be sure to bring along some friends, because the only sure way to get your hands on them is to camp out until you catch a rare spawn, quite possibly waiting in line (or duking it out) with a bunch of other questers seeking the same thing. The journeyman's boots are also rumored to be available via a close-to-impossible quest. Look for a fellow named Bootstrutter who wanders the Rathe Mountains. Hide for the Heck of It Even when merely strolling through town or wandering in the woods, practice your hide skill at every opportunity. Practice makes perfect, and doing this will increase the chances of your hide skill working when you need it the most. Guards Can Help If you flee a fight with some beastie, head for the town guards. They'll save you. But don't look back to see if the monster is chasing you. It always is. EQ monsters are relentless. Group Dynamics EverQuest is strong in its variety of combat skills, and group dynamics is where EQ really shines. Every group welcomes a stout warrior or two to serve as a shield for the group. As the warriors go toe to toe with the enemy, wizards and other magic users can cast offensive spells, while clerics and other healers can cast defensive and healing spells. Warriors can also taunt creatures, luring them away from the members of the group who are using magic or ranged weapons. Group Aid One strength of EQ's interface is that when you are grouped with your fellow group members, you always see their health. This makes it easy to quickly lend aid to a fellow warrior or wizard who is being pummelled. Look Before You Fight When you see a monster ahead of you, don't attack immediately. Quickly tap F9 to bring up an overhead view that will let you see all around you. Scan the area thoroughly so you will be prepared for any sneak attacks from other nearby monsters or player-killers. - o -
