How do I defeat the first vampire bat at Carfax?

Before taking the key from Pilbody's jacket SAVE YOUR GAME!  As
soon as you pick up the key a large vampire bat will break down
the door. Turn around and shoot the door lock. Open the door and
go forward once into the room, turn around and move the dresser
that is on the left side of the door to block it off from the
vampire bat. Now you can take your time to explore the room
safely.
