Asheron's Call Lie Down You can restore your stamina much faster if you're lying down, rather than walking or standing around. Just hit the B key to get horizontal. Know the Portals Intimate knowledge of the transmitting portals that get you from one spot to another on the map can be a great advantage in the game. Ask trustworthy characters about which portals lead where, or cautiously explore them yourself so you can get to know them well. Lag Storm Ahead Learn to recognize the early warning signs of impending lag, one of which is your character suddenly appears to be running through Jell-O. When in the Wilderness, immediately stop running until the lag storm passes, and if you're in combat, get away as soon as possible. Look Before You Attack Before fighting a monster that you've never faced, always try to identify it. Click the Monster and press E (for Examine), or click the Magnifying Glass. Even if you don't get the statistics, you'll always get the level. And the earlier you identify a monster the better. If you get its information before it notices you, you have a much better chance of running away. Loot Your Corpse If you pass on--and you will--be sure and revisit your corpse at haste to retrieve the majority of your items, especially if you are at a low level. While your corpse is decomposing, only you can loot the body for the remainder of your items. But once the body's gone, any items left there are fair game, so be sure and pick them up quickly. Make a Friends List You'll soon realize that certain characters share your particular life schedule and will be logged on at the same time you are. Cultivate these relationships and you'll never have to adventure alone again. Also, you can share tips and hints on what you're currently doing, where you're going, and points of interest. Network with other characters by trading hunting spots and remote location information; it's loads of fun. Keep Rare Spells to Yourself The magic system in the world of Dereth is dependent on a single pool of mana. One of the effects of this system is that little-known spells have much greater effects than spells that are widely used. If you manage to get your hands on a rare spell, either by creating it or learning it from a patron, don't spread it around; you'll decrease its effectiveness. - o -
