Cultures More hints from Sue Build farms on fertile-looking ground. It will make a big difference to the amount of wheat you get. If a merchant says he can't find his workplace, you've probably got a gap in the signposts leading from one trading post to the other. When a merchant is en route from A to B, don't click on him - you may confuse him and he'll head home! Remember that once families start moving into houses, the women will store food there. This will deplete the store in the storehouse and may cause a famine. The only option is to demolish a house or two and release some stored food into the community. The Crater The Redskins won't attack unless any of the Vikings go near them. Their settlement doesn't increase in size as the game progresses apart from births to replace anyone killed, as far as I can tell. I built a defence tower as close as possible to their settlement then lured out any archers etc using a swordsman and let the archers pick them off. The temple is to the far left, but you know this when the scenario starts. It is guarded by a number of archers and spearmen with a supply tent to the right and a tower to the northeast. I took about 20 warriors, mostly archers, due west then up the far western edge of the map so that they came into the Vinlanders camp to the left of the temple. There they killed the Vinlander warriors and then moved round to the south to destroy the supply tent. The defence tower was destroyed next and, finally, they attacked the temple. The Rocky Mountains Food is a real priority at the start. If there isn't enough, the Vinlanders will wander off looking for berries and get lost! So I built a huntsman's tent to the far left and put three huntsmen in it to quickly get food coming in. That gave me time to build a farm and so on. The safe route to the vanguard post is down the left side of the map. Go as far left as you can. Build signposts to the vanguard post. I used 3 merchants to transport the goods. Mexico Initially set 3 Vikings as fishermen while you gradually set up the farm / mill / bakery route. There are only two females so marry them off and get them having girl babies. Build enough dwelling tents to hold all these families (8 in the end if necessary). Meanwhile build a woodcutter and a clayworker. Make the same Viking do both tasks, alternating between them. First as a woodcutter until you can build a joiners. Then as a clayworker until you can build a two family dwelling. Then switch him to a joiner until you can build 3 family dwellings. At the same time, the farmer can switch to a miller then a baker if necessary. Once you can build 3 family dwellings and all the initial Vikings have been married, you can then switch to producing boy babies and do the usual 1 married couple and two bachelors to each 3 family house. There's a tribe you need to help in the middle bottom of the map. Take your time finding them, until you're strong enough to build defence towers and create soldiers. Start by trading with them. I exchanged crockery for food and leather armour for gold. I found that one lot of the baddies came up from the middle and a second lot slightly to the right. I built 3 defence towers along this line so they could pick them off as they tried to reach the good guys. I put some swordsmen also between the towers. It took a couple of fights, but eventually I was told that we'd seen off the bad guys. The Pursuit Food is even more of a priority. I started this scenario several times. Eventually I began by creating a farm, then mill, well, bakery. Meanwhile built a clayworker and woodcutter, then made the woodcutter into a joiner so I could start with 3 family homes. Into the first one I built I put the miller, farmer and baker. The food just about lasted long enough. If you build tents right from the start, the food goes into these and doesn't leave enough for people without homes. Then I built a barracks and put all the fighters back into civilian mode and gave them 'proper jobs' until I was ready for the final attack. I sent a couple of archers and a swordsman down to the encampment to the south east. Destroy the buildings to the left first, then take a few more men to finish the job. There aren't many buildings or people there. But then - disaster. The tribe who said they were your friends turn out to be the bad guys and attack your village. - o -
