Samegame By Kevin Bracey - given with this issue Reviewed By John Ferris (PC) And now for something completely different... Inform is probably the most popular language on the Internet for writing adventure games. However, Inform is quite a powerful language in its own right and can be used to write other sorts of programs. Samegame is one of these programs. It is not an adventure, but a puzzle game in which the player is presented with a grid of coloured blocks. The idea is to clear the grid of blocks by selecting blocks that are surrounded by two or more blocks of the same colour. As blocks are removed, the remaining blocks move to fill the empty spaces. It sounds a simple idea and it is, but in practice there is quite a bit of strategy involved, as you have to join up stranded blocks so they can be removed. That's all there is to it, a simple but challenging game to play when the mood takes you. It's only 7K long as well. - o -
