BATTLES ON DISTANT PLANETS Download from www.winsite.com/bin/Info?500000029570 Reviewed by Michael Raven A shareware game, you fight the good fight (or the bad fight) against the enemy. On the demo version you have a small starter game and 'A Distant Night on Rangor' scenarios to play. Control tanks, troops to flying craft, armoured guards and turtle-like patrol vehicles in battle. A sort of action-strategy game, you must complete whatever objectives are set for you. Let's look at 'A Distant Night on Rangor'. The Terrans - or humans - have been fighting some kind of insectoid pirates. You've chanced upon a base where the insectoid leader is, and you must try to kill him before your forces are wiped out by his superior fleets, including a shuttle which you are unable to destroy. You have to decide what to do with your forces - do you send a portion off to attack the communications site, which if you destroy it the shuttle will be delayed, or will the extra vehicles be needed in the battle at Kroll's (the enemy commander's) base? Meanwhile, if you're Kroll, have you got all exits covered, or can the humans get in around the rear and blast your head off before your front troops get around to intercept? PLAYABILITY 72% A bit difficult to control at first. LASTABILITY 69% Only 2 scenarios won't last you long. GRAPHICS 78% Nothing spectacular, just the normal Windows 3.x fest. SOUNDS 76% Again, just normal explosions and things. OVERALL 80% Once you get into it, it's quite fun, but you'll get bored of the same battles soon. @~I can also supply this game on disk if you're interested ... Sue - o -
