Super Letter Linker A Gamehouse Game On SynTax CD 2 and for download from www.gamehouse.com Reviewed by Sue Last issue I reviewed Super Text Twist and Super Nisqually, both from the Gamehouse site. Here's another of their games that you can play online, download an enhanced, time-limited version, or purchase the full version online. Super Letter Linker is their latest game. The unregistered version lets you have 30 play sessions. The object of the game is to make as many words as you can from the letters provided. The words must be made by linking the letters vertically, horizontally or diagonally. The game can be played in two modes. First is Timed Mode. Playing against the clock, you have to find as many words as possible. Points are scored according to the length of the word. Three letter words score 10 points, four letters are 20 points, five letters 50 points and six letters are a strange 62 points. (Why 62 points? Who knows.) Once you find a certain number you become eligible for the next level though you can still complete the one you're on. When you finish the level, all the words you could have made are listed with the ones you found highlighted. I found it was just embarrassing to see how many I'd missed. In the Untimed Mode just find all the words - if you can. An empty list is shown on the side of the screen and the spaces are completed as you find each word. The empty list just indicates how many 3-letter, 4-letter and 5-letter words etc there are and you're also given the total number of words. The only thing that makes it slightly easier is that the words are listed alphabetically which gives a hint for any gaps. You can pause the game during play if you need time to think, but the screen is cleared while you do so you aren't allowed to cheat by looking at the letters. Letter Linker is nicely programmed and fun to play. It's also very frustrating when you know you've missed lots of words. I'm hoping that as well as entertaining me, the game will improve my vocabulary. - o -
