Asheron's Call Monsters' Levels Don't Correspond to Character Levels Even a level-1 player character can easily dispatch a level-3 Gnawer Shreth. However, a level-3 Red Phyntos Wasp will be a challenge to a level-6 player. Why is that? Monsters' levels are determined by how strong a monster is compared to others in its class; there's no relationship with players' levels. Beware entering new areas and facing monsters with oddly high or low levels. Step carefully until you figure out their capabilities. A level-17 Tumerok Priest doesn't sound too bad (it has only 85 hit points, after all) but because it casts spells such as Frost Bolt IV and Shockwave IV (good for a combined total of 90+ points of damage), it's lethal to characters over twice its level. Patron/Vassal Chat You can speak to anyone in Dereth by entering @tell [name], followed by your message. But you can use shortcuts to communicate with your current patron and/or vassals. To speak to your patron use /p, and to speak to your vassals use /v. Patronize Me As soon as you can, swear allegiance to a Patron. Find out what benefits you'll get (most Patrons will provide equipment and money to new vassals), but signing up early provides a big boost at the beginning. To swear allegiance to another player, click the Social Systems (which looks like several people) button, and then click the Allegiance tab. Highlight a player character and then click Swear Allegiance. Shortcut Keys for Posers You can configure your keyboard with shortcut keys for your favourite poses. Click the Options button (with the check marks), and then click Configure Keyboard and Yes to leave the game world. Scroll down and select a chat pose in the keyboard configuration screen. Enter a key (or a new key) that you would like mapped to that pose. When you are finished, click Save As and enter a name for your new keyboard configuration. Click Exit to return to the game. Spend Your Experience Points Now You can spend experience points as soon as you get them, you don't have to wait until your character advances a level. So as soon as you have enough "XP" to advance that skill or attribute a notch, go ahead and do it. Stay and chat Every time you enter a chat message, you'll be kicked back out into the "real" world and need to click the chat bar to enter a new message. But you can set the interface to keep you in chat mode until you click out of it by clicking the Options button (with the check marks) and then clicking the Character tab. Check the box in front of "Stay in Chat Mode after sending a message." - o -
