Caesar 3 - Lugdunum Thought and hints from Bev Truter Re Lugdunum in C3, I also struggled and struggled with that mission - mainly because it took me over an HOUR to figure out I could build roads up and over the 'steps' leading up and down from the raised bits of land...doh!! Before then, I had no way of accessing nine- tenths of the map, talk about thick as a plank. I assume when you mentioned having problems with the Lugdunum mission you meant the wolves, as that was my next problem - the 2 roaming packs of wolves, that leap across any bridge you build to connect to the natives' chunk of land, and proceed to relentlessly chomp their way through all your hapless citizens. I eventually started a game where I built a bridge across to that last chunk of land, then just sat and waited patiently (about 10 minutes) for the nearest pack to cross, and when they did, they headed for a western corner of that island, and sat panting for a while. Aha! If you immediately hit PAUSE, then slow the game speed to snail's pace, you can build a wall diagonally across that corner of the island, thus keeping them penned in that section, with hardly any interference to your roads and bridges. But you have to be quick, because once they move off from there they never seem to rest in such a good place suitable for fencing off again. However, I never figured out what to do with the 2nd pack of wolves, who kept their distance for a while, as shortly after my initial successful walling-in of the wolves I played very stupidly, got deep into debt, then gave up AND FORGOT TO SAVE before quitting and exiting. Bugger. On a 2nd and 3rd attempt on Lugdunum, the silly wolves never seemed to sit still long enough in a suitable place for the walling-in tactic to work, and I'd proceed happily with building my little city and sending in my missionaries only to suddenly notice dozens of poor helpless citizens dying horribly from wolf-attacks. I planned on starting for the 4th time from scratch, walling-in the first lot of wolves, then using soldiers to kill the 2nd lot, but somehow never got around to playing Caesar 3 for a while - too many other distractions, games-wise! - o -
