The Perils of Power Levelling by Robbies Dog It has become a habit of mine on commencing a new game, particularly an RPG, to power level. That is to initially gain experience points as quickly as possible in order to increase attribute scores. I do this by racking up money and kills by any means available. There are practically no depths to which I won't stoop to in order to beef up my character - as long as I think I can get away with it. I kill and rob the weak, steal from shops and sell the goods back, drive harmless species into extinction, nick anything that's not nailed down and generally behave in a reckless manner in order to be perceived as a hero by the NPC populace. Would you buy a used car from this man? Or let him into your house? Just occasionally this backfires and yet again I wish to share my pain in order that others may learn from my experience. While recently playing Morrowind I raided a family crypt and sold the funerary items therein for a tidy sum - nice work if you can get it. However, it has been claimed that what goes around comes around and indeed in this instance the universe did indeed fight back. Sometime later I was given a quest to recover one of the already fenced items as part of the central quest. An item that is no longer in the possession of the bloke (now deceased) leaving me well up a certain waterway without a particular implement. Fortunately the guile and cunning born of desperation soon saw me through and I learnt a trick that became useful at a later point in the game. A further quest saw yours truly seeking an item from a thoroughly unpleasant individual who wouldn't give it up without a fight - so I whacked him. Unfortunately the said rotter sought his revenge by falling through a seam between two texture polygons leaving only his feet exposed and me unable to examine the corpse and thus without a means of extracting the necessary item. Which is where this little trick comes in: PRESS ~ (tilde) to pull up a console window TYPE player-> additem "item_name" and voila the item is now in your inventory Obviously power such as this should be used with extreme caution and I certainly don't advocate the use of cheats under normal circumstances or indeed for anyone else. - o -
