Runtime Error 200 in AGT Games From Sue I gave Bev's 'Still Laughing at my Cardigan' away with the last issue of SynTax but after a few weeks I had a message from Jan Charnley to say she couldn't get it to work. She got 'runtime error 200'. That sounded familiar to me, but I knew I hadn't had problems running 'Cardi' on either my Me machine or the XP one though I had seen it in the past with other games. Jan had Windows 98 second edition ... so did my Mum and it ran fine on Mum's PC too. Sometimes I hate computers! Time to go to my favorrite Internet site ... after the SynTax one, of course ... Google groups. I got quite a bit of information from various messages that had been posted and this is what I learned. There were various suggestions. Try one of the 'slow down' programs like Mo-Slo (given with Issue 68) Tppatch - this is a program written by Andreas Bauer which fixes Runtime Error 200 in AGT and other Turbo Pascal programs on fast machine. You just put it into the relevant directory and run it on compile.exe and run.exe. Or in this case probably runb.exe Windows AGT - evidently this will run ALL AGT games. I tried it. It crashed. AGiliTy (The (mostly) Universal AGT Interpreter) - see another file in this issue about AGiliTy. You can convert an AGT game into one that will run with Agility and evidently avoid the runtime message. This seemed more hopeful. I downloaded the latest DOS and Windows versions and found the conversion program, AGT2AGX.EXE. Using the syntax: AGT2EXE CARDI produced a file CARDI.AGX which I could then run using either AgiliTy version. It worked fine for me, but what about Jan? As it happened we didn't have to go that far. AGiliTy will also run AGT games directly from their DAT files and when Jan tried that it worked. So the conclusion, if you're having problems running AGT games, try AGiliTy with the normal compiled files. Or use it anyway - I liked it! **** For anyone else having problems, all these files are on the SynTax website at www.syntax2000.co.uk. - o -
